Hey everyone, I know this is a bit of a how long is a peice of string question, but i want to get my clubby painted, all the body work will have been done, and I only want a flat color.

I just wanted to get an idea on how much it had cost on average, so that i can buget it into my build, as im not ready for a few months.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I think you mean "Solid" colour not "flat" Solid means non-metallic whereas "flat" means you dont want it to have any shine to it.

If you prep everything and drop it in without windows in it so it only needs primer and colour you may get away with a cheapy for $2500. Full job on a bare shell expect around $8k including prep.

Remember you get what you pay for.

Metallic or not won't effect the price very much. It's everything else that does.
I'd allow 4-5k, you can probably get something for that if the prep work is done.

I think I got the best deal ever.

I paid $850 for a metallic paintjob a couple years back. It was an older man from the Adelaide Hills. He even sikaflexed my seams and painted everything seperately. I did the prep work myself and primered it only over the repair areas. If I had a dent or scratch left, he would have just painted over it. Im sure he just rubbed the primer/color back abit before starting. The original colour was orange/yellow but the grey primer was quite dark so as he started to paint over it, he realised he needed more layers to cover the grey because metallic is very transparent, so he requested to buy more paint. Didn't cost us any extra in man hours and after a couple of months, after the paint had hardened he even did a cut/polish on it free of charge too!

I hope he still does it cos he was awesome!

I think you would be lucky to find someone like this these days.

How is the paint job holding up a few years on? Do you happen to have his contact details? I am tossing up whether i paint or not.

You would be lucky to even cover the cost of non metallic paint at $850 let alone the labour cost.

I will pm u his details if i find them. The paint on the car still looks brillliant! As with all new paint jobs u have to care for it

5 grand should cover you if your doing the prep work yourself. I paid 2500 8 years ago for meenis job from a bak yarder, it's pretty rough now.. You really do get what you pay for
