I believe KAD rear discs are purely for weight saving - they offer no improvement in braking performance over standard drums (perhaps a bit of fade resistance? but really they shouldn't be getting hot enough to fade because, as the previous poster mentioned, most braking is done by the front).

The set up on my mini is KAD 8.4 inch vented discs and 4 pot calipers ,KAD pedal box and KAD rear discs .
I have been using the rear discs for the last 9 years and the main benefit of the rear discs is unsprung weight and the need to not have to adjust the rear brakes.
The brake pedal also does not lower with wear from the rear pads and the brake pedal has a solid feel that I have not got from drums at the rear in the past.

The KAD pedal box is fantastic bit of kit! It has a lot of adjustment and makes getting the rear brake bias easy to do with drums or discs on the rear .

I have found the best front pads to use with the vented discs and 4 pot calipers are the stock pads , the green stuff pads never worked as well(didn't get anywhere near the right temp to work on the street). If I was to buy it all again I would not use vented discs .

I have seen the KAD pedal box and I'll be using something that works the same way, just won't be KAD and will be facing inwards, as I'm going the underdash brakes route with remote fillers. I agree with the rear disk setup, it is just mainly weight saving but it's sooo tempting..

Hi
I have read a few times that vented disc's on the front are not the best.
But is that only for heat reasons.
wont a solid disc bend when they are warm and you were to leave your foot on the brakes for a traffic light ?
ALL modern cars have vented disc on the front..is that more due to the fact the cars are more heavier ?

Nothing wrong with solid discs (8.4 or 7.5) on a road car.
Minis weigh nothing compared to modern cars, ventilated discs are overkill on a road mini. Too long to warm up....
No, they don't warp if you stop and hold the brakes on.
In 20 years of road use and some track days I've only cracked 1x S rotor, and that was because it was a Chinese made `R*A' one.

these ones brett - http://www.minisport.com/mini-spare-par ... embly.html ??

im unsure of if those are made with good quality components

or weather i should make my own kit - http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/2295/brakeso.jpg

the upside of the minisport ones is they come pre assembled

Hi Matt,

may i ask why hydro competition bump stops on the fron and with Dry set up ?
Any advantage over standard Dry Bump Stops in the subframe ? more progressive maybe ?

Cheers
Luis

Shane, those brakes were just some crappy old things we had laying around here :-) i just figured we could use them up to get them out of the way :-)

& Imbm... the bump stops were simply a matter of -> We had them sitting here & didn`t have any dry ones in stock at the time :-)

& just for the record,,, i`m not such a big fan of vented brakes on road minis,,, nor am i fond of heavy 4-pot things... so my ideal for road & occasional track use would be 2-pot alloy calipers on solid large diam rotors... but it all really depends on your budget & your wheel size... or your will/need to pretend how awesome your brakes would be if you actually used them to their potential ;-) instead of just pub bragging rights :-)

AFAIK you can't, Mini Mad bought these ones in from UK.

See http://en.tarox.com/products/brake-systems.html
