As mentioned elsewhere I scored an Auto engine today for the 295 head and hardy spicer outputs. I took the diff off holus-bolus and left the engine for another bloke.

My question is, are the outputs from the diff hardy spicer specific?
And the single side cover I retrieved from the auto diff cover (they only have one side cover, the other is integral to the casing) looks different to the Cooper S type, is my memory correct?

Yes the output shafts are Hardy Spicer U/J specific, and auto sidecovers are different to a Mini.

Although S shafts are slightly different length & material? to 850-Mini K ones the inboard spline is the same and the H/S joints fit.

Ok, thanks doc.

So the output shafts can be used on a manual box as well?

I've not measured them but I believe they are same as S ones?

Note- re my previous post discussing splines, note I was talking about driveshafts, not the diff outputs..

Yes, thanks Doc I understood your intent.

I haven't another to measure against here, but there seems to be a spacer on both sides of the diff, so I can't be sure if they're the same.

You Can Use the auto out put shafts on a Cooper S without Problems
However Check for wear on the gear part Autos are often worn more than Manuals in this area
