Very Sad, I used to visit Carbodies for work, they had a rich history as body makers, for a while they painted the Heritage shells for BMH! So there's a Mini link!! :P

Thread revival!

I really hate it when your new Mini Spares UK inlet manifold has the big hole off centre compared to the carby mounting studs!! And no, it isn't the gasket with the hole off centre...

Time to get the die grinder out.

I had to fit one of these where the other end was out to the stud slots by over 3mm. I had to get GR to TIG weld one end of both flanges then remachine them on the mill.
Sorry Minispares, near enough is NOT good enough.

Thats seriously disapointing , with modern technology you would think not only would the material composition be superior but the tolerences be more exact.
Makes it a bit worring when your restoring your pride and joy.

Thanks for the tip Kev. I laid a manifold gasket over the head side of this Mini Spares manifold and fould that the inlet holes are both off to one side by about 2 mm. I'll be able to centre them with a round file of the stud slots on one side and a dab of devcon on the other.

We shouldn't have to work so hard to install new parts

No doubt we will let them know that their products are just not up to scratch.

Where did you bring them from? Perhaps you brought them from the seaside and the salty air perished them?

Hi Yes I am open tomorrow,
Re your CWP I am not saying for sure however
It looks to me that they are not a matched pair,
there are are lot of ratios that use a 62 tooth crown wheel, but you cannot use the same 62 tooth crown wheel on all of them
For instance 18/62 17/62 15/62 all use different crown wheels

I wish You a happy new Year

I mismatched a crownwheel and pinion once. Only got halfway up the driveway in my case. If it is a mismatch, you done good to drive it around for 6 weeks - maybe the new gears are in fact of extraordinary quality, and just don't like being in bed with the wrong bedfellow.

If mismatched they would have wailed like a banshee from day 1. I don't think that was the case, it was fine until... BANG!
