My UK carbon fibre (effect) dash obviously doesn't like the
aussie heat. It started delaminating and that carbon fibre laminate, once curled doesn't like being clamped back down it fractures. Disregard the big star cracks in the picture, that was me after deciding it couldn't be saved and tried to slice it off with a flat knife, but it was also very brittle.

Use original rubbers, or ask Matt Read for some better poly ones.
I like rubber, you get less vibes into the body.

I bought a black 130mph (UK Mk2 type) one a few years ago and the new fuel gauge lasted 10 mins before it went open circuit.
The Chinese can copy anything, except Quality.

I can add a dodgy part to this ever growing list too.

Kevlar bottom radiator hose.
I put one in a mini years ago, 1500km later I replaced it with the 30 year old rubber one again. The kevlar one had developed a split in the middle near the heater hose return.

I have just read through this thread and agree it should be a sticky. Although I have experienced some problems I now consider myself pretty lucky having to cut/shunt a replacement wing to fit.

Its so a disheartening :( read but worthy. Makes one want to hang up one's Minis. But I am very grateful to the time taken for these posts. We learn as we go.

12 months ago after being fed up with two local mechanics supposedly fixing my brakes I took the car to JSMK who was instantly accross the problems and fixed in no time. Poor parts?; I dont reqlly know. A PITA to trailer the car there from the South Coast but its what I should have done in the first place. Thanks John, you be good man! I hope that you have finally completed the move? Wayne

My new minilife wheels arrived from said mini supplier, after having the tyres fitted I found that 2 of the wheels had very loose centre caps. After playing musical caps I found it was the actual wheels, the ridge had been miss machined! After lots of emails, calls and false promises I got 2 New wheels and a tyre thrown in FOC to use so I can use as spare ob one of the faulty wheels! Was a yoko 032 too!

Blunder, did this blunder occur in the old dart? or out west? :)

My New Ignition Barrel decided to die when smoke came out the Key hole ..
it was two years old but the car has probably been driven 10 times since it was put in .. Key had Lucas printed on it but no doubt that it came from china or alike ...

Have now put a Cole Hersee switch in ... Much better made in USA

Baulk rings...
I bought 2 new ones a few years ago, can't recall if bought here or direct from UK.
They are not only the wrong taper (rock about on any gear I try) but oval too.

If you are buying new ones the competition ones are best. They are dearer, but you get what you pay for.
[edit] take a gear and try their fit. Another GOOD reason to buy local.

If a baulk ring breaks right after fitting (as some have) or takes 5,000km to bed in (like one I fitted to Barney) it matters not how cheap it was.

Why you ask? Are you looking at getting some? I purchased the 4.5 x 10 awesome little wheels!

Nope...purely out of interest and to advise friends...looks like the after-market spare parts market is going to Hell in a handbag :!:
