Rocker quality has always been shakey. It's difficult to have quality control when more than one manufacturer is involved. If you call a company in china or even the uk, get a quote for manufacturing, there's nothing stopping them from outsourcing manufacturing!

Another crook part today- new Pot Joint bought locally.
I bought 2. Both new in sealed plastic packaging.

One was incorrectly ground/machined on the outer diameter that goes through the side cover bush.
The diameter should be 1.250", on this one it varies from 1.249 to 1.254 when measured accurately with a micrometer. It is .005" tapered, and .005" oval too... Made it impossible to machine the side cover + bush to fit it properly, so the new bush is now buggered too. :x

Pot joint can go back for exchange tomorrow and I'll measure its replacement in store. [edit] its replacement was OK.

Its mate was OK, it just goes to show how good QC from overseas isn't these days.

Another unfinished part from the northern hemisphere then sold here.....
Thermostat housing.
MOWOG originals had the 3 stud holes drilled to 8.5mm, not these ones..!
They are diecast alloy, unmachined, and the 3 holes are tapered, 9mm+ at the bottom & just under 8mm at the top, and so they jam on the 5/16 studs easy. Hard to get it back off.
I drilled the buggers out to 8.5mm, but why should we need to...

You are not alone...

I now usually get mine from Heritage MG parts, they make them here from real NiCr steel and properly heat treat & grind them.

Thanks John, I didn't know this.

It is a constant worry when buying this sort of stuff in from overseas now, the suppliers seem to outsource to best price and don't give a rat's about the Quality. Or, check their goods are made right when they get them.

I'm sure most of us on here would pay a bit more, IF the quality was there.

I should also add that the diff pins we supply are made in a siimilar way
I am consantly trying to make sure that I supply parts of the higest quality possible
But I must say not everyone understands that quality often costs a little more
There are some parts that I just do not supply because of quality problems

I bought a comp layshaft from one of the Mini Spares suppliers in the UK. It was bent and took several emails and six months to get a replacement. Yes, six months!!!!
I certainly would pay more for quality especially when it comes to safety like ball joints. ;)
