If it's giving up, it's possible the brushes inside just need replacing.

Alternatively, you could try MG Heritage Spares or Mini King.

I purchased a new one from minisport UK for next to nothing.
Needing lots of washers to line up the belt, but it did the trick.

I got one from Tony (convertible_mini on here) and that was a great process without hassle.

yeah just be aware that some of these new alternators have got the wrong pulley on them (off-set is similar to the morris 1500 one) & often need to swap it off for the old proper mini one

better that than packing-up with washers to line-up the belt

i would have thought that the suppliers of these alts would have mentioned something about that, but doesn`t seem to be the case for some reason

That would be providing some customer service
We all know how common that is.

I have the proper 70 Amp Alternators for Mini. I have sold quite a few to Mini owners on here too. Pulleys and spacings on my Alternators are correct for Mini.

I personally don't like the idea of the alternator depending on being mounted on the Water pump Lug only. It really needs support from the back or it might break something if belt is done too tight. Not the one fitted to the engine above, I can see it has two pivoting legs. I am referring to the ones shown in link using one from Diahatsu Charade.

I think you will find the alternator I have fitted does have more than one lug providing support
