Interestingly, according to my PUB1038 parts book, Mini Ks don't have bumpers. They have HYA3056, Finish Assy lower, 2 off.

I guess this is why they don't survive being `bumped'...

There are two types of round-nose bumpers - originals had the ends turned in (the one on the right below) and later ones didn't. I think these later ones are aftermarket. I'm guessing you have the latter.

Whilst the 'hockey sticks' are different lengths for front and back (back are shorter so the boot lid doesn't hit the over-rider when lowered) the holes are in the same position - front and back. On mine the hole (8mm or 5/16" diameter) is 25mm down from the top rolled edge and 56mm in from the end.

On the 'aftermarket' version the hole actually lines up vertically with the square hole in the mounting flange.

The over-rider is held on by a clamp so doesn't need a hole.

All you need is an image hosting website e.g. photobucket, imageshack etc, refer to this thread http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10405 .. pretty easy, if you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

Bump (er bar).

So yeah - I've taken note of some of the measurements mentioned above. Does anyone have a fool-proof way to make these holes in the bumper before I get out the implements?

Template, other measurements, or just passing on lessons from when you did it?

Looks like this got lost, assume the OP found their way.

WIthout starting a new thread - if you've got the overriders and want to add the nerf bars later, do they drill into both the bumper AND the overriders? Or do you have to buy the MK1 overriders so they have a place for the bars?

And is the bar threaded on the end for a nut and washer to hold it in place?

The kit that I bought from a UK supplier had holes in the over riders. And both ends of the nerf bars are threaded ready to accept a bolt.

You have to drill the holes in the bumper bar yourself. And it comes with an angled (washer?) For the back of the bumper bar.

I put tape on the bumper bar, dummy fit everything so it lined up how I wanted it and then traced the outside of where the nerf bar meets the bumper bar with a Sharpie onto the tape.

Then I moved the nerf bar out of the way and placed the angled 'washer' to match the outline I marked. Which showed me exactly where the centre point was to drill the hole. The tape helped me get purchase with the drill bit. Remember the hole is angled so it ends up being very oval in shape.

Thanks for the details, that's a great methodical way to go about it.

Do you think that if one had overriders without the holes, it would work to just drill them and bolt through the back, as you do with the bumper bar? I'm on the lookout for used and it seems tough to get hold of original Mk1 overriders rather than the deluxe ones with no holes.

No problems at all, you're welcome :)

Yes for sure, I would think you could just drill holes in hole-less overriders, and end up with exactly the same end product.

You could just test-fit it and figure out where to drill the hole, or feel free to post here/pm me if you want me to take some measurements for you.

You can get a fitting kit if you are missing some of the fiddly pieces - http://minikingdomonline.com.au/product ... tting-kit/

Let me know if you want to drill over-riders. I can post the section of the engineering drawing showing the exact size and position of the hole.
