You're right there. A weeks passed and I'm none the wiser. I'm gonna make one. Its only a cap with a bit of mesh, and its turned into an auction.

Cheers.
Alex.

Hey Alex (hazeblue) sorry mate, i didn`t mean to ruffle your feathers, plenty of people PM`d me about them. i told everyone who asked about it via PM the same price

it`s not an auction,

now they`re sold

Mick and wild willy,
Checked out both sites and found the rubber seal. They both also have repro reduced hose kits to get around the brake booster. I'm very happy now. Somerford doesn't seem to think it was such a good idea though. Their notes refer to it as a "restricted air inlet" hose for the 66-69 Cooper S.
Alex (hazeblue)
Also just went out and measured the heater box plastic air hose adapter and its definitely 3 1/4" dia. Perhaps the earlier heater with the external under bonnet fan as per original 997 Cooper may have 4 1/4" hose but the bulkhead grommet looks as though its the same size.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I need to do a bit more googling.

I'm in the same boat as you Ron, I have been putting together an eclectic pile of bits to assemble a new complete heater assembly. I'll be keen to see pictures of how it all goes together if that is OK Ron.

Early Coopers had the air intake flapper unit which was able to be operated from inside the car via a cable. The hose from the air intake to the blower fan located in the engine bay was indeed 41/4"
The tubing from this fan to the heater unit in the car was the same as later cars at 31/4".

Mick,
If I can ever work out how to post pics I'll see what I can do. When I did this on the 66 S I just went to Lapco in Nth Melb and bought the bits. I didn't know about the reduced hose size to get around the brake booster. I just ran the hose alongside the booster and down to the grille air intake. It was a bit of a squeeze around the brake booster but it worked. I can't remember if the air intake was already there. IIRC early cars such as my 63 850 had the air intake fitted as standard. I bought the 850 because I couldn't afford a 997 Cooper at the time.

Regards
RonR

Hi ron, thanks.

It seems to me that the early heater setup is one of the more mysterious items of interest in the Mk1 Minis. Almost everything else has been covered ad infinitum.

Mine is the early 997 Cooper setup with the heater fan under the bonnet. Thanks to Winabbey and Panthersteve I have nearly everything, except the air flap control cable.

Once I have the hardware, I will start to put it all together. I'm curious on the hose. I'm not at home to measure up the diameter, but as I am without booster, I believe it will be the same size to the fan, and am not sure about the size to the grill.

Greetings All.

This the heater I have just refurbished. I'm not sure Now) what it is? It came with the car ('63 Cooper). Haven't seen the under bonnet type mentioned. The PVC outlet on the heater measures 4&1/4" (about 102mm)

I've posted this exploded diagram in a previous thread but thought it easiest to repeat it here. According to the part descriptions clamp #33 that secures the hose to the intake tube is 4 1/4" diameter, and clamp #34 that secures the smaller hose to the blower is 3 1/2" diameter.
