The pics you posted show a non standard air hose inlet. The original type only projects about an inch or so. Early ones had a metal inlet fittting and later ones had a plastic fitting. Somebody has modified the air inlet and made it a larger diameter and longer. Probably to get more air into the car.
Its also worth noting that later model Morris Minors used a similar heater assembly but they didn't have the side covers over the demister hoses. The one I saw in NZ was a 60/61 Minor van with a 1098 engine and the same Smiths heater under the dash.

That intake could be oversize. It's 4&1/4. With the hose over it it will look OK. It looks like the original piece? Who knows where the PO got it.! :-)
