If it stalled during rollover it should be okay. If it was still running while the car was on it's side or upside down, even briefly, I would not touch it as the bearings are probably stuffed.

If it is a rod change gearbox, the gearchange rods are thick and would not break easily. If they did break in a crash I would have doubts about damage to the diff housing. But if it was just the gearstick or mounting "cotton reels" that broke, then no big deal.

Do you know the seller, or does someone on here know them? How well was the car serviced before the crash? Is it still in the car and able to be test run?

Personally I reckon you are better to find something closer to home which you can test oil pressure and compression on before buying. You mifght pay a bit more but at least yo know what you are getting. I'm sure someone in Melbourne would have a good used running 998 or 1100. Have you tried Link and Minis Plus?

Ill have to ask him those questions. I've spoken to link and to get a reco'd motor is out of my budget at this point. The bloke seems to have really looked after it well up until the accident, he is a member on here, he was advertising the motor a while ago but it never sold. Food for thought I guess.

that motor has been through the works, driven all over the country in all sorts of conditions... apparently reliable, but done 100,000km and could be ready for another rebuild
