A friend of mine has been using MGB Oil Coolers on his car (non-mini) for years....recently one failed so he got a replacement from a Sydney MG spares place (the "new" one is probably Chinese)....

After fitting the new unit and starting the engine, it dumped most of the contents of the sump through a pinhole/crack...

So, the moral of the story is probably do a quick pressure test on any "new" replacement oil coolers for Mini's before fitting them  :D

Sounds like they make about as many replacement parts in UK now as they do here... ie pretty much zip, nada.

It is possible to buy well made, long lasting and good quality items that are made in China, however, when consumers shop only on price, they're going to get crap aren't they.

Doesn't matter where it's made, if it's made to be a low price, it's going to be crap.

I'd be more interested in whether there is Quality Control than where bits are made. Sadly, to get Quality products out of China you need to have a presence there.
Yes, I have worked in China...

This unit is an aftermarket "genuine" replacement part sold for MGB....but is probably from the same shop making Mini and other rads in China.

My guy (Kev) actually goes to China & is on the ground, hands on with what we make there, so we get as best quality as you can possibly get from them,,, they still try to stuff you around tho, even tho they know there`s eyes on them :-) dumbKnuts

anyways,,, a little story about a friend of a friend who trusted the little buggas-->

when the suby WRX was fairly new-ish,,, he got a mate of mine (Gonzo) to make up a set of performance exh pipes for his Rex

then he convinced his wife to let him mortgage the house to borrow enough to get a thousand sets of these pipes copied in China

they did & once they all arrived he advertised them & were selling like hot cakes

"UNTIL",,, the phone calls started coming --> "Hey these pipes dont fit,,, i`ve tried everything & they don`t fit anywhere,,, the whole lot is crap & can`t even mod them, best to make a whole new set",,, etc,,, etc,,,, etc

& yes of course he lost his house, his wife, his nuts & a few other things along the way,,, i think i saw him sleeping down by the river under a bus shelter the other day.

sooooo the moral here--> Never-Ever trust them , not one bit!!!!

little prikks :-)

Discussed this a little with the Doc...and he thought both MGB and Mini were pretty much the same 13 rowers

That's what I'd have said too. Same part.
