3400 rpm is a much easier issue to sort than being speed related. It'll be an electrical gremlin or vacuum line problem.

Here's the DIY ones:

-Check the hoses from the trottle body running into the metal pipe behind the rocker cover, and the two hoses off that into engine breathers. Replace hoses that have split or have holes.

-Theres a vacuum line running from the back of the throttle body to a small black box, then another vacuum line to the engine computer. The plastic plugs on these commonly crack / split / fall off. Check all of these.

If it isn't any of those it may be time to replace some sensors. Air temperature inlet and water temperature are the cheapest sensors and easiest to replace. The crank one is working, and the car barely runs if the TPS has gone, so shouldn't be them.

I second Simons recommendation for Link Automotive. What Brian doesn't know about minis isn't worth knowing. Brian won't waste your time or your money, heck I drive from Frankston South if I want something done that I couldn't do myself.

Should I be purchasing necessary parts from the uk that will bring the cost down? Gaskets, water pump, bearings, etc etc?

Mine did something similar and I had the whole lot rebuilt - no point doing half the job.
If I remember tonight I'll put together a list of stuff for you that was done / bought.

Thanks Harley. Thats very kind of you mate. I brought a mini knowing I might have problems at some point, but nothing so soon or severe
Lucky my wife and I are both within walking/biking distance from work. Just sucks its coming up to winter which makes biking a lil more fun.

Each to their own - personally I'd ride to work before I get the mini wet!
