Got my personal import permit so my mini will be on its way to its new home in Melbourne in 2 months time. With that in mind I need advice on the following. I will be bringing some spares as shipping by container so what is hard to get in Australia.

Secondly I need advice on an engineer to do my check for registration and someone for roadworthy that knows minis. Anyone on here do that or recommend someone who does.

RWC - no real recommendations. David Walker from Caufield Jag did my last one, but I dunno if they normally do Minis.

Contact your local transport office, they'll put you onto the right people.I think with personel imports the rules are different to normal compliencing.

I shall do that you are correct I believe it needs to comply to the minimum safety standards as detailed here and be road worthy. From my knowledge I believe all I comply to the majority of these have new seat belts fitted which comply to UK/AUS standards as does glass/ windscreens etc (child restraint top tether mounts need to be fitted) and it must be roadworthy from here

Dont suppose anyone has a list or knows what the minimum requirements are. The car is rust free (spent years and too much money doing that) and will have new tyres before i go as they are needed.

do a little bit of research and buy tyres that are available over here - just in tyres in UK are much cheaper than here, so buy them before you ship the car, but case... tyres are one of the things that need to be complianced

and the smallest compliant item is the hand break light on the dash and side intrusion bars in both doors, child seat connection points and seat belts, so thats a start. good luck, there are a few Rover Minis out this side of town.

Make sure you ask questions to whoever you intend to to ask to comply your car. Make sure they know the rules regarding "Personal" imported cars. The rules for personal import are "Much" more lenient than commercial importation of vehicles. To most it is all about money and they will try and tell you it will need more things changes than they should. Suss them out first and check the written rules your self. It is much simpler then they make it. I am sure you can find the Honest person for the job.

The best bet is to select and talk to you engineer, stressing that it's a personal import, not a SEVS/RAWS. I know Rohan Carter is familiar with these, that's why I suggested him. He is fair and easy to deal with. He will inspect the can and tell you what needs to be done. He will allow you to do the work yourself and then re-inspect and sign it off if you prefer.

You are correct it is much more lenient. Was wondering do you know the following.My mini does not have a catalyctic convert never had is always emmisions tested in the UK as a non catalyzed vehicle and have documentation to prove that. It tests still below the minimum emmisions for ADR. Will it be ok if it does not have one as someone mentioned they are required in Austalia.
