It is a national holiday and also fathers day here in Thailand today. A great day to have a birthday!

I know! I went to school with a couple of guys from Thailand who boarded at the school - they were very impressed that I share my birthday with their king

I know (or know of) I think 9 people on the same day - dunno whats so popular about 9 months ago today!

The markings on the float bowl tags on the twin SU's will show the specification (i.e. what car they were built for). It will be AUDnnn format. If you post it I can look it up for you.

Both fuel bowls are AUC1310.

Ryhno - that number is for the fuel bowl/float bowl/float chamber itself, a relatively common part on SU's. We need the number stamped on the little tags attached to the float bowl lid. They will be AUDnnn, then L or R for left and right configuration. For example, a 1275cc Cooper S will have AUD146L and AUD146R.

That looks like a Sprite/Midget manifold. It will be the wrong angle for a Mini. :(

The pistons in that box with the Hastings rings are Hypatecs. Good pistons for most purposes.

Yes, you are right. A search on the manifold part number (AEA634) shows this - http://mk1-forum.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7260

It's not that it's no good, it's just not a direct fit . It puts the float bowls on the wrong angle and you may have trouble clearing the cross member. I believe you can machine the locating horn off the carb body and adjust the angle of the bowls to suit.

Also the King if Thailand of also known as Rama 9. So there's another 9 reference :)

the pistons might be stamped, but put a ruler across the bores and measure as accurately as you can. It does look like its been bored a long way. Make sure you keep those bearing caps (3rd photo) with the block!!

When you say long motor, that means head, rods, cam, crank and everything in between. It looks incomplete from those photos. Catalog whats there and measure the bores.

Also measure the thickness of the block between the pairs of cylinders (1-2, 2-3 and 3-4) and post that up. Its a useful bit of information that is needed when dealing with big bores.

Ran a a cheap set of digital calipers across the bores all are 73.85mm
Thickness are
1-2: 3.22mm
2-3: 3.00mm
3-4: 3.30mm

Also this can't be the original engine code?
Anyone able to explain the code on the block?

Sounds like the block is probably at 74mm bore then = end of life.
The original engine number has been ground off and poorly restamped with that one.. nfi what the number means.
It's not a Police issued number, they all follow the form: N 66 1771 P where N = state, 66 =year, 1771 = number issued that year, P = Fuzz.

don't scrap it though - one day it'll be more cost effective to have these blocks resleeved than to source another

I have couple of 1100S blocks that need to be sleeved to live again, and a MK2 S block in similar condition that someone gave me, massive bores and needs line boring, but one day it'll be needed

edit: also Rhyno, run your calipers over the crank journals and put those measurements up
