Anyone use engine lifting brackets that fit to the two rocker cover retaining studs?
Make it easier to lift the engine up and give it a decent coat of paint all over (excluding the chrome rocker cover).
I normally use the bracket in the photo, and paint the engine prior to putting it on. Thus no paint on the sump.
This time a I will be using a metallic/pearl paint with a clear coat on top, thus being a bit more particular.
Is this type of bracket any good? (for a rod change)

If putting the engine in I use a bracket similar to that one. Fine for a Clubby, they are easier (no remote flange on diff housing of a rodchange so more room).

If you hang it off the rocker studs like on a Morris Minor, you will have problems. The motor has to be tilted back to fit or remove, even in a Clubby.
If you just want to hang it up this way for paint, fine.

To paint mine I just sling a rope under the back manifold stud, and under a bolt put into the water pump's alternator lug.
Make the rope long enough so it doesn't touch the rocker cover.

I made a bracket like this, there's a how to here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=36503

Only difference was I just drilled a hole and put the u-bolt through the hole as I didn't have a welder.

The benefit of using the bracket is that it tilts the engine back, which makes it easier to get out (the diff housing sticks out). The bad thing is that you need to loosen off the head studs - I needed to replace my head gasket when I used it because it didn't reseal correctly.

Hi Davo,
The photo is an old one.
The car is back in Adelaide having a rest after driving back after Watto's grand day out. Had very few problems with it for the two years while in your neck of the woods.
Apparently it is not the right type of car for a vet doing callouts to cattle and horses.
And the daughter is now in Queensland for a few months and then of to Manhattan NY for 12 months for an internship in a vet hospital.
