The first 56*** serial engine listed in the Cooper S register is for an October 1970 MK II Cooper S, in fact the same car that recently made its way from my garage back to its original owner NSW Police, and is now painted Crystal White (see other threads). The last 56*** engine was fitted to a Clubman GT built in October 1971. The highest serial number recorded is 56416.

Well I don't know if it is Chong. Cost will depend on a whole stack of things, like whether it is just a block or how complete the motor might be, the actual engine number, the bore size, overall condition etc. As i've said, it is a genuine enquiry, I've been playing with minis since early seventies so have a pretty good idea what is what and what things are worth. It costs nothing to talk, if anyone has a block or motor as described, happy to hear from them and take it from there.
