Have you removed the plug and kept it connected to the lead, ground the plug then start the motor briefly and see what sort of spark you have? Ensure your plug hole threads are providing an adequate ground for the plug.

Just did that now and yes it has spark.... Now I ran it for a little bit and then re checked and it drops on idle now... only maybe 100 rpm.. then checked the others and same result 1 2 and 3 see about 100rpm drop, then I check 4 and that almost stalls the car? sound right? I was also about to check the tappets but I need to get another feeler gauge as my ones are to small.

ok just went to check the tappets and when I pulled off the rocker cover there was milky oil on number 2 inlet retainer and around the rocker cover gasket... guttered! I thought this would have shown up on the compression test...

It is probably condensation that has dripped off the bottom of the oil cap.

Don't be too disheartened yet. The milky oil could be just from humidity / dew in the air. It's common for mini's to have a small amount under the oil filler cap. I would only be worried if your entire rocker gear and springs were covered.

About halfway the page DrMini mentions short trips will also give the milky oil under the oil filler cap!

Cheers Shane

^ thanks guys... yeah I was talking to a friend of mine who said it could be condensation as well.. its been very cold here atm and the car has not been driven for about a wk.

I didn't bother checking the tappets as I thought it was the HG after seeing the milk
