I just went into the shed i sanded that channel no numbers are present and the bulkhead only has one of those pressed dips on the rh side the lh side does not

That narrows it down a bit more!
No numbers in the channel points to a 850/998 van.
The single pressed dip points a wind up window van.

I'm thinking somewhere between May 65 and Feb 69. (yeah I know, a lot of help that is but I'm working on it!)
Now Goldbrocade_62 thinks it has the later wiper motor and that was changed in mid 68.
So that narrows it to mid 68 and feb 69 and that is looking better!

Looking at a photo of a handbook and van number 6072 was sold 3/6/68 so your van is after that date.
At this stage I would guess that it is very late 68 or early 69. (probably the later)

The prefix for your van should be YJBAV2R and the car number 7887.
The engine prefix would have been 9YE/U/H and somewhere around the 4750 number.

This is great in 1 day i have more history and knowledge about my van than i have received in two months .
That prefix you have listed is great now as for the car number i know that is what is stamped in my car but i have looked at lots of literature and most say the chassis no is 501 above the number stamped on the car is that correct.?
Is there any more hints on the car that will help cut the time frame down further thanks again for your time

The number you have should be the correct car number.
There were two separate numbers stamped on the car, one is the car number, the other is the body number. On that model the body number stamped on the radiator shroud panel, the number is usually around 500 lower than the car number.
The car is supposed to be registered with the car number and not the body number.

If you can post some more stuff like wiper motor dates and stuff like that it will help prove what it is. Every electrical item like switches and fusebox etc has dates on them.

What I have posted so far is purely guesswork with nothing solid to confirm anything.

Tail lamps on vans were all the same here I think.
If wipers are LH park it is a 1968 or later.
