Have been with Lumleys for a few years. I get a yearly quote from Shannons (to try and win a motoring trip! ) and they are close, but no cigar!

Have read both PDSs and pretty much the same cover and limitations.....

Get a quote from all of them I reckon....

Shannons any day... Also in NSW get your CTP green slip with them it's through GIO... Just had an experience with NRMA, father in law 55 years loyal membership, had his car, house, business, roadside and CTP.with.. NRMA Experience the indifference...Stay as far away as possible.... Don't believe their adverts...

Yeah, no idea....must be heaps of different factors, as the Shannons quote is always around $20 more......would be happy to change over to them if they were a bit cheaper or I won a holiday!

I have all my cars/motorbike and house with shannons, can't fault them, claimed a couple of windscreens over the years, they also cover stuff like workshop tools and motorcycle gear.

Better check your NRMA fine print....

In the PDS it says they won't cover vehicles driven on a regular basis for shopping or going to work. If you went to the shops on your drive out I'm sure you'd still be covered. They are trying to prevent you using it as a daily driver under this kind of cover.

Quote:
we will not cover your vehicle
if it is
• used on a regular basis for shopping,
commuting to and
from work, or to transport
friends and family
• driven more than 8,000 km
during a 12 month period, or...

unless
you have told us in writing
beforehand, we have agreed to
cover you, and you have paid any
additional premium that applies

Either way, it's a lot better than what the majority of places offer (my last one they wouldn't insure the car at more than $2000, and I had a $1500 excess and it was $330 a year!)

Depends on your situation, location, garaged, rego type, driving record, and of course the car and what you want to insure it for.

I originally had my $7000 mini insured with Shannon's and they were good till I restored it and wanted an agreed value of $20,000 odd. They would only agree to about $15k and said that is all they are going for on csrslads.... Tools.
I suggested they do an inspection and I could show them all the photos as proof but they weren't interested. Their premium for $15k was about $700 too.

Lumley was the go for me. The we're open to my $20k and once the saw my photos of the resto Nd finished product were all for it.
Member of the Vic mini club gave me a discount too.
Cover: full comp for Over 25, driven 2-3 times per week on full reg with glass cover, choice of repairer and salvage in the case it was written off.
Premium was $186 three years ago and is now $286 with an agreed value of $25k location was Point cook and now Bentleigh East. There was no change when I moved which was great.

Shannons is just a rort i reckon

If they are so good then why do they have to annoy people with quote forms every dam weekend at all the car shows around australia

I dont know how many times ive said to shannons blokes you were at such and such show werent you they say yes then i say i didnt want a quote then and i dont want one now either

The only show they were not at this year that ive gone to so far is minis in the gong show

Shannons was the dearest and nrma offered me the same deal as them for around $120 cheaper

Mainly because that is their job  , I'm sure they don't chase you around the car show until you give in to them and they give you a quote do they ?, of all the shows that i have been to , i've not had one Shannons rep hassle me about a quote ,if you want a quote , go see them , if you don't , don't go up to them .

As for Shannons , i have 2 policies with them , couldn't be happier .

Of all you guys with Shannons, how many of you have immobilisers? When I last had insurance with Shannons they would not insure me unless I installed one. My car was nothing flash, was agreed to 6K, locked in a garage and still cost me a premium of over $400 a year

I bet not many of us have an `immobiliser' as currently sold, but most of us including moi would have 1 or several `immobiliser devices' fitted.

I have 4 cars with Shannons, two driven daily, two on their limited use discount. Was costing me arond $1500 a year, on full no cliam bonus, never any claims, then my 17 old lad on his P plates started to drive one of the daily cars and the premium went up by about $800.

I have vintage motorbikes insured with Shannons as well as my minis. Find them quite good. Couple of the bikes they reckoned were under insured so they bumped up the cover, but they dont go on the road. To risky these days with a bike that only has a very small rear brake!!!

I love the discussions on insurance as there are so many variables but the differences are so great.

My 1999 rover is insured for 14k with shannons and costs $720 per year full comp. Nrma just rang following up on a green slip qoute i got so while talking asked them for a full comp qoute. I have a good driving record and loyalty discount and insuring the car for under 9000km per year and garaged their qoute was $351.00 per annum which is a massive difference.

My 69 sedan and van qoute prices were basically the same between nrma classic and shannons.

Has anyone found cheap greenslips for their mini panel van? (Another rego coming up)
