Hoooly dooly.
Ok i was bored, and nigel suggested it one time.
So today i tried it.
About 10 seconds before the lights turned green i pulled the choke out to about 1800rpm and it was nice and lumpy and throaty 8)
I played with the accelerator a bit with the clutch in and in first gear so the plugs didnt foul up too quick.
When the lights turned green, i eased my foot off the clutch, with choke out, and it **** rocketed along!
Absolutely amazing.
The choke went back in when i got to 60.
It was absolutely incredible.
Plus, the car runs slightly rich too, so its not like it was running lean before or anything...

Can anyone explain it?
The power was unbelievable.
Felt tuff.

reason: more fuel

just like putting a bigger carby or a weber on it?

wils, we've heard not too many good things with a rich mixture...

Its not so much the richness that does damage.
Its the lean-ness.
If an engine is too lean, it pings. And does lots of other nasty things.
Too much fuel doesn't harm the engine in any way.
As far as im aware.
Is this right doc?

excess fuel washes your bores clean which means less lubrication and more heat

spaceboy is correct about the heat to much fuel tends to make the motor run hotter

More air = more bang = more performance. By choking, it restricts the amount of air getting in. So, I think it might of sounded "tuffer" but was probably slower.

Why do people bolt turbo's and superchargers on????????????

Well I don't know it doesn't seem that stupid
but I assume that pulling out the choke in the way big willy explained it worked in a kind of rough way a bit like the accelerator pump on a weber or dellorto.

An accelerator pump is like when you open the throttle suddenly there is a whole heap of air that rushes in because the butterfly has opened but the jets have not yet supplied the correct amount of fuel so there is a bit of hesitation before the car reacts. So what the webber does is squirts some fuel down the port to give you some extra until the main jets come into play.

As far as I know the SU carb doesn't have a accelerator pump so it just has to wait until the jets come into play.

So what big willy did was by pulling out the choke he made it run rich which when he dumped the throttle there was a sudden rush of air (as above) but because the mixture was already a bit rich he had a better mixture in there at the time. Mind you when the main jet started to deliver the right amount of fuel he would have been getting worse power and worse fuel consumption.

Does that make any kind of sense? :?:

Yep that makes awesome sense!
And yeah i pushed the throttle back in once i got to 60 kays coz i noticed no difference as if it the choke was in.
The acceleration off the line was awesome.
Wheel spin all the way thru first, easily.
Ahh... maybe i need a weber 8)
