Does anyone know of any uk or Aussie companies that make an mk1 seat cover rebuild kits. I see I can get the correct foam from Newtown but can't find Australian seat covers. Am I missing something or is there a U.K. trim that is very close?

UK was totally different trim but I though they did do Aussie kit that was pretty close.

Be aware there were two different trim patterns used in the Mk1 Aus Minis (changed around 1967 I think) and then a third pattern for the Mk2's.

Ya they Newton do the interior panel trim for the aussie deluxe and cooper but can't see if there is one that matches the MK1 for seats.

I don't know actually. I bought as a resto with no rego papers and owner didn't know the year. There is nothing on the compliance plate. How do I find out?

Look at the date on the wiper motor , or undo one of the switches on the dash there may be a date on it , if you think it has the original blinker switch take the cowling off and you may find a date on the switch near the steering column.

If you post a picture of the ID plate (or the details from it) you will get responses from those who maintain registers of models and numbers. You should be able to get within a month or so of the delivery date.

P.S. Just a comment on terminology for your info and education: BMC plates riveted to the firewall were called ID plates and were only on Mark 1 Minis (up to 1969). From January 1970 there were no ID plates, just ADR (Australian Design Rules) Compliance plates showing the ADR's that applied to that vehicle. The vehicle delivery date was also shown on the compliance plate.

I'm no expert and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know there were 3 patterns in the Aussie round noses after the Deluxe was released.




1964 - 1967

It has the set of evenly spaced pleats and the squab at the front edge. Note Door trims pattern. This is a Deluxe. There was a cheaper Model that than the deluxe (poverty pack) and I think the door trims were just dead plain no embossing.







1967 - 1969

It has pleats but the 2 outer pleats are wider and all pleats continue over the front edge of the seat. Note also that the door/side trim pattern changed. This is a Cooper S so it got carpet as standard rather than rubber mat and black vinyl on the dash rails but apart from that no difference to the Deluxe.








1969 - 1971 Last pattern seen in most Mk2 minis is similar but less pleats having one wider pleat in the centre.

Going by the car number it is around July/August 66. < Please disregard, I cocked it up.

Thats great a 66. Is there production numbers per year online somewhere or a big book gathering dust?

So I downloaded the Newton Catalogue and they do list an Aussie Cooper kit for the MK1. http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/catalogues/ Page 46 and they look the same trim as the red middle pics above?

If yours is a `66, it should really have the earlier trim.
