I believe the Mini headlining material pattern changed in the early 1970's but I'm trying to confirm this and identify the change point (car number and/or date). The first two pictures below are from my unmolested 1970 MK II Cooper S. Apparently this pattern continued into the early Clubmans but may have changed to the type shown in the last image around 1972 or 1973. The Mini parts books and trim guide show the same part number for the headlining throughout this period (HYA2173) but the material type specified changes from #407 Grey to #488 Grey.

There's been a couple of discussions on here in the past but, from what I can see, they concentrate on the 1960's cars, not Clubmans.

If you have a 1971 round-nose (Cooper S, Mini K, etc.) or a Clubman of any vintage with original headlining could you please compare it to the patterns shown and report back with what you find. Please include the car's delivery date as shown on the ADR compliance plate.

P.S. If you have another grain pattern altogether please post a picture of it.

P.P.S. The Clubman GT doesn't appear to be any different from the other Clubman models, but please advise if you know otherwise.

I was looking at very original, very early (among the first 30 Cars I think ....bought new May 69) Mk2 S on the weekend. I remember looking at the headlining and thinking thats different to mine (late 68) but I can't recall if it was like yours Doug. I didn't think the pattern was as obvious as yours. If you don't get much response I may be able to get a pic from him.

my 3 GT's

9/71 (from memory)
12/71
11/72

All have the criss-cross pattern as per cooper S

I have another clubman here (hydro) 4/73 I think (Will need to check exact date) and it has the same roof lining material.

The last picture is what late minis had. my 78 leyland had this.

My 6/72 Clubman GT has the same pattern as the MK2 Cooper S as above.

If anyone has a spare hoodlining as per the MK2 Cooper S / Mini K or know where you might be lucky enough to find the material I would love to hear from you.

John.

Thanks everyone for your response. Above are the earliest dates so far for the new headlining. The change point was possibly different for van and sedan as they would've used up old stock before moving to the new pattern, and van and sedan headlinings are different.

More examples are welcome, and encouraged, so the change point date can be narrowed further.

Does anyone know where you can get the original headlining from? A sample pic is in my previous post.
