is that a Steve Learmonth??

He has a reshelled white clubman GT?

I believe he used the repro caps for his car with stickers, I spoke to him years ago.

If it was me powder coat every time. The only problem I've seen with powdercoating and this is with commercial windows is that after many years the colour can look chalkie and if you scratch them a touch up is hard to disguise.

Yes it is... no idea about the reshelled GT bubba... after trying very hard (unsuccessfully) to get aluminium discs with the leyland logo made up he ended up using the stickers but he insists that the caps he has/gets are NOS... not repro ones.... who knows! I spent a fair while on the phone with him today. Top bloke. I've ordered a set of stickers off him. Hope to have them by the end of this week.

I think most paint them but I do recall some discussion here about powder coating them some time ago. Can't remember exactly but I think whoever did it wasn't entirely happy with the colour/finish you get with powder coating...or something like that.

I powdercoated the rims for my moke and where the wheel nuts go the coating has begun to come off. Not much you can do about that.

I need another set for my most recent GT, I may need to give him a ring. I did send an email a few weeks ago

yeah another set

Not sure (I cant remember) if my latest GT has the correct caps or they are missing (I know it has the wheels).

I have a NOS set in original leyland/unipart packaging i got a few yrs ago, and im sure i have enough in another second hand set i have.

But having looked at what he is charging I will be giving it a miss, and source some from elsewhere (but check my car before i buy some)

try this bubba... http://www.leacyclassics.com/aha8950.html cheap as chips! I just ordered a set along with a set of (18) wheel nuts all for the princely sum of $72AUD. Not sure if either of them are exactly right but I already have a set of genuine GT caps so more than anything I'm just taking a punt on the new caps...

Today was my monthly lunch with a small group of ex-workmates (Shell Australia), including Bill who is a BMC and Leyland enthusiast having owned a Morris 850, Clubman GT and Austin 1800 in his earlier years. As a result of some spring cleaning he found and today gave me some wheel centre caps that came off his Feb. 1972 delivered GT, and a single wheel nut. The caps he removed and stored because they kept falling off but he forgot to put them back when he traded-in the car.

I post these pictures in case they are help to GT buffs wanting to identify original parts.

Things I noticed:

1. The blue Leyland swirl is printed on a domed shiny metal disk about 1 mm thick.
2. The larger cap is also domed in the centre to match the profile of the swirl disk.
3. The swirl plate appears to have been attached by a small blob of glue (visible in one photo). No wonder these became separated from the cap itself.
4. A couple of the spring fingers at the back have broken off, a possible reason the whole cap fell off.
5. The wheel nut has a slight dome.

Hi Doug.

I dont believe that is a GT wheel nut. I have never seen a nut look remotely like that on any mini. Looks more similar to a contessa wheel nut - with a rounded shaft (but not one of those either)

Definitely correct caps though. I have a couple of those centre discs, but are not in the condition of those ones.

Yes found the same, the centre aluminium disc is curved and painted leyland held on with glue.

Doug you interested in offloading them to a good cause :) (for payment)

The fingers breaking off is common, i have a set of second hand caps and there have many broken fingers on them :(
Odd they kept faling off - as they are in pretty tight.

Thanks. I should've said he wasn't sure of its origin. I'll tell him.

Of course you are top of any list, Brenton. :) I'll keep you posted.

The guy selling them worked for BMC/Leyland Australia.
