Can somebody fill me in on what I need for a reverse light.

74 Mini with a remote change, not sure if its what was originally in it?

Not sure on where a switch would go, checked an old video of it running before I pulled it apart and no reverse light or indicators came on.

Do I need to have this for roadworthy? Could I wire my reverse lamp to a normal toggle switch or does it have to be operated by the selecting of reverse?

Now, onto the gearbox issue,

Got the remote housing fitted, fitted the lever and knob, is there anything other than the large washer that goes between the ball on the lever and the housing? When I tighten the bolts on that washer/plate, it locks up the lever, so I have put some washers underneath to space it out a bit.

It also seems hard to select gears, 1st goes in ok, cant get 2nd, 3rd ok, 4th is a bit stiff and reverse also. Is it just the fact that the car is just sitting there without engine going, or would it be something misaligned?
When I took the engine and gearbox apart, I didnt touch anything on either side, just replaced the gaskets and half moon seal.

Thanks in advance for any help

The reverse light switch is screwed into the gearbox below the oil filter, if it's a remote box.
Not all remotes got it, only 1971 on (except Police cars).

re the stiff shift, pull the gear lever out, clean and grease the ball, socket and the nylon bush at the bottom. That's what mine did recently too.

Thanks Doc, I'll try adding more grease to the gear change tomorrow.

I'll try and source a switch, then hopefully the wire will be there for it!

But a s/h original switch. The new repro ones being sold don't fit properly. Their plunger is too big in diameter.

No.Doc. 1972 onwards.

My 12/71 gt has the switch on the gearbox and the wires to it in the front harness. But the rear harness doesnt have the wires for it :)
