Had a nice derp moment and posted a question in my own build thread, smart 8) :? .

In terms of the side lift jacks, are they all the same? (for the mini's that is)

or would I be better off staying with my scissor or get a screw bottle jack such as thus?

The mini side lift jacks are pretty terrible. Just about anything would be better.

Scissor jacks are deadly too, bottle is far better.
My choice is a small trolley jack kept in the boot, much safer.

I think the original jack does what it was designed to do quite well, change wheels. DO NOT GET UNDER THE CAR using them!!!!

that was the plan, I don't get under the car with a jack there .. Only when jack stands are in place.

Side lift jack is fine for wheel changing as said. But be aware that the thread in the nut eventually wears out; if it has much endfloat on the thread don't trust it. It's dangerous when they strip.

So in terms of that, I would be better with the screw bottle jack? aka mechanical bottle jack?

Scissor jacks are fine, especially on a 600kg car! I bought a hydraulic jack from supercrap when they were on special - $25. But for emergencies I still use the wind-up side jack. So long as the thread isn't stuffed and the jacking point isn't rusted out, they're fine.

I have dad's floor jack at home, he is planning on getting one of the new alloy ones similar to the cosco ones, as seen in the tyre change pics in my thread.

The Costco ones look good but would they be too wide when trying to put it up on stands? I haven't gotten around to buying one yet but that was the thought I had at the time.

Depends where you are jacking and placing the stands, my dads floor jack is of a similar width and I have no issues; jacking form member of the sub frame with a block of timber, yet to make the jacking block.
