I second the idea of a "flotilla". Could there not be a lap of 9 of the best followed up by a lap of every mark 1 (cooper S spec) that we can lay our hands on? got to hundreds of them. I'll be in it!

Yep...but you can see Grp N Minis going around just about every Historic race meeting.

What I'm suggesting is a tribute to 1966, and honouring the Drivers that achieved the first 9 across the line in similar Minis.

It won't be easy to organise, knowing how tight an on-track time slot in October is to secure from the V8 organisers.

Guys,
A few of us have been looking into this for about a year now. It has been proposed that there be a mini only race run on the Saturday and a parade lap like was done for the 30th in 1991, part of the motivating factor behind getting the East Coast Series up and running again is to show that there still is an interest in these cars and in mini racing in this country. The commercial Jugganaught that is now the V8 debacle means that for us to have even a 5 lap race there will cost a packet. Typical entry fee for Saturday is $3500-$4500. each.
Having said that for an opportunity to race at Bathurst I think there will be plenty of takers. If this works out and we have something in place I would most certainly have all of my cars shipped down there for display and to use on a parade lap, but I think I would ask Brian Foley to drive 28C, since he pedalled the car at Bathurst. There are plenty of minis for Bob to drive but I doubt his wish list will be filled easily.

I will call Ron Adlam of the NSW mini car club and get him to start to push it but if anyone has any pull down there with either HSRCA or the V8 mob I would love to hear from you and am happy to help co-ordinate as much as possible. Watto may be able to assist as well. Lets see what we can manage.

Greg.

Thanks Greg,

The whole reason I suggested something in a small package (9 cars) is that it might be more easily fitted into the programme than a race + parade...and the V8 lot seem keen to claim any Bathurst history to further their advertising machine...

Don't quite understand what you mean about getting a Mini for Bob, all he wants is one that is not down on power (I reckon one of Matt's 1500s might scare the pants off him!! :-) ) and the right colour...we have over a year for someone to tic tac with Bob and come up with the goods...me and a bunch of others could assist.

With Foles Mini background, I agree he would be good to invite...

I said at Post #1 I know a someone who has an "in" with the V8s, but I won't be bothering them until a firm way ahead exists and someone asks for my help...

However, someone could ask the V8s if there are any slots and if they are taking suggestions/bookings...

maybe a little more of the 5Ps is appropriate at this stage tho....

PS have you guys forgotten 2006? I haven't!

I have also spoken to Leffo a few times and agree...however, before we contact people, how about we work out what is possible or indeed whether it is plausible :D

AND who can do WHAT and WHEN?

That is a fair point. I just have to go see him again soon anyway.
Maybe if we both mention it we can make him realise it could be a worthy celebration

I looked into this quite a lot in 2006 for MCCNSW, had a project plan and everything that I put together in 2004/2005. The first time we tried to contact V8Stupidcars, they told us that they had sold the rights to someone. This was the guy that put on the parade lap then as a profit making enterprise. Everyone who went along had a great time, so no harm done.

Just remember that V8Putridfarts are all about making a buck, so if you know someone who can sew up the deal within their organisation, I would say do it now. Don't wait.

And anyone who says "someone should organise this" and does not actually call a meeting of interested parties at the pub at least, should get on with it! Don't wait for "someone" - it's YOU!

Disclaimer - unfortunately i won't have time. Doing renovations, running a small business, planning a large business and working my day job leave me just about enough time to think about maybe getting into the shed, let alone run a project like this.

cheers
michael

With Bob needing a quick car only...

Doesnt he need something with the pedals also?

Something rings a bell from mini 50.

(From having polio as a kid I think)
