Reviving this post.

Has anything more come up?

I know the Mini Owners Club Qld and Vic Mini Club are talking about something happening, but I haven't heard anything about NSW. If anything is going to happen, the time to do something is NOW. Don't wait until after Bathurst this year. If people are talking about it then action is required now or it just won't happen.

Well said Watto...need to herd the Cats soon-ish. Short-term excuse #1 for me is in the throes of moving house etc...but available to help as I previously stated...

I was going to suggest that QLD and VIC (+ NSW) Mini CCs be asked to form a syndicate and a committee to kick things along...yeah, that'll happen!

Does anyone have Redbull Racing contacts. They do a lot of stuff for PR. Last Bathurst was a big thing with the RAAF. They have a big budget. Just be prepared to have your mini painted and wrapped.

Yes I do. Didn't think of using that contact.

Craig, amongst the hundreds of other things I seem to get involved in this is where we currently stand. I have contacted Ron Adlam of the NSW mini car club for assistance. Since they are the best local contact I was hoping they could take the lead on this one. Ron is currently on holidays and hopefully can do something on his return. We had a meeting last week of all the QLD mini club representatives regarding doing something at Lakeside next year. The event is in its infancy but will coincide a round of the East Coast Mini Racing Series (which is set to move to one of the premier racing events held at Lakeside) i.e. either the Lakeside Classic or Historic Lakeside weekends. The plan is to have a joint gathering of all clubs, i.e. Cooper Register, QLD Mini Car Club, Mini Owners club of QLD, and Club MINI. The event we hope will consist of a show and shine, Lunchtime laps of Lakeside for road registered cars. Up here the Parade Laps are fairly loosely controlled and as long as you are sensible a moderate pace of speed is encouraged. The weekend being in conjunction with one of the premier race events will have racing from both Group N, Group C (of which there are a couple of minis) as well as the ECMSeries.

Like I said this is all in its infancy but if all goes to plan is definitely one for the calendar.

As far as Bathurst goes, I can't run this one as I just don't have time. Is there anyone on here who would like to volunteer to take the lead and push this event. I for one am happy to assist as its not my first rodeo, and as Craig has expressed, he too is happy to provide assistance in the form of publicity.

Come on guys how about a bit of assistance to make this happen. All it takes is a few people to work as a team and its on its way.
G.

Onya Greg,

BTW a little dickie-bird told me that Brian Foley is doing something at Bathurst this year...probably Alfa related...even though he and Paddy DNF'd in 1966 maybe he could be asked to do something for services to Mini in the early days...

Brian has confirmed he will attend the next East Coast Mini Series race at Wakefield on Aug 8/9. I will have the ex works car of Foley/Hopkirk there and Jono Morris will have the Broadspeed there as well. Both will be resto fresh for Brian to have a drive of during the lunch break.

Further to this post, I spoke with Caroline O'Shanesey yesterday and she is keen to drive her ex-Bathurst mini at the event during the lunch break as well. Should be great to reunite her with the old car as she missed out on driving it at the mini 50th.

Can this item be moved to "planned events"?

Not sure I understand?

Does this mean you are taking the lead on this event?

All it takes is one person to push it. If you do you have my full support.

Doesnt he need something with the pedals also?

Something rings a bell from mini 50.

It appears it has never been a problem in the past!

Bob still competes in Historics these days
Must get a bit more from throttle cable I guess?

If it goes ahead I could probably get use of a large workshop in town for overnighters to leave cars.
Greg I would even dust off the 'last Bathurst winner' for you mate.
