 Post subject: Quarter glass catches

Any hints for tightening the rear quarter glass catches? Mine get blown shut whenever i hit about 50 kph and i can't see any way of tightening them.

You could try carefully peening the rivets a bit.

It is the `spring' in the rubber that holds them open.
been there done that and it fixed both.

A tennis ball shoved in the bottom corner was a standard solution way back when....

I'm talking about the window rubbers. It has sponge or something in it which pushes against the glass. This holds the window open because the bit near the front still pushes it, even with window catch opened.

[edit] This assumes you are using the Australian window rubbers. UK Mk1 rubber is different construction (rubbish). I bought some once, a long time ago...

I thought the catch was designed to push back to the position where the latch locks open and the wind cant push it in. In other words the latch goes straight and then back past the point of being straight. Once it is there, the wind cant push it closed.

Yeah, they do but when the hinge rivets get a little loose it flicks forward and the window will nearly shut for the most part.

I had this issue with my car and I carefully swaged the pivot pins just enough to tighten them and they were back to as good as new.
