Hi all, I've noticed that a few contributors refer to a "Cooper S" register that lists body/engine numbers. Is this available online somewhere? Cheers Dave

There is a register being compiled by a few members. Nothing has been published. I believe that watto and winabbey have access to the register. PM them with your cars ID plate details and they will be able to confirm if it is a known car. They will keep your details private if asked.

I've often wondered why can't registers like this be made accessible to members?
I'd like to know where a few of my cars sit in various registers but won't offer info if it's just being held in a repository for a select few people.
If it was public I'd offer details but when it's kept in private then why bother keeping details at all?
I have a few other makes and know where they sit in between others made in the same times (vintage makes).
Just my thoughts......

There are several registers being maintained by volunteers. See here - viewtopic.php?t=40079

Watto has been the driving force behind the Cooper S register, which is really an attempt to re-create the factory production records which were destroyed during the wind-up of the companies. There's a description by Watto near the end of the first page of this thread - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=76418

There's various opinions on how model registers should be managed. Some marques have a publicly accessible database. It appears some people don't wish to contribute because they value confidentiality of their car's information. Others don't want to contribute to a privately-managed database because they can't see the whole thing.

I'm one of a couple of administrators of the Cooper S and Clubman GT registers, or at least a version of them. I know several individuals keep their own 'registers'. Access is available on request, for example to see whether a car you are looking to purchase is recorded, to estimate the delivery date for your car, it's approximate engine number against others manufactured around the same time, etc.

I assume Watto is happy to receive comments or suggestions to improve the data and access to it.

Incidentally, no personal current or previous ownership information is divulged, unless it's significant, such as a works race or rally car, or Police service.

I have not posted much on this site before, but jump on daily to have a look at all the advice/build threads and general going ons as one day I will have the $$$ to start my resto. I have supplied my vehicle vin and engine number to Watto for the MK2 S register. From my point of view it would be nice to see how many vehicles are know in existence from year of manufacture/variant etc. I'm. not interested in who owns such vehicles as that's a breach of confidentiality and privacy IMO

Just my 2 cents worth :)

Exactly.
It would be nice to know the car that came after yours (be it immediately or 1000 cars later) was red with red interior and the next after that was green with tan interior or whatever.
Just for interest sake.
It's about getting a timeline and watching it change.
I don't care about the current (or previous) owners. I'm all for confidentiality/anonymity.

Currently around 480 Mark 1's (of 5000 produced), 350 MK II's (of 2400 produced) and 130 Clubman GT's (of 1200 produced).

Stand by for some very exciting news on this topic. I will create a new post tomorrow seeking member's views, suggestions and comments on a proposal that should make many people happy. :)
