I have a mini clubman and need to buy some flares I have cooper s drums on the back also the weeks are 10x7.

Do I need to remove the metal flare from the wheel arch?

What flares will look good?

No your arch lip can stay there as the later leylands had a steel strap spot welded to the narrow lip to take the cooper s plastic flares. The 10x7 flares you might need to measure to make sure your wheels aren't poking out or run non stepped brake drums. Better still find someone with a similar set up and measure them. These are mine but I left the straps on and just cut away the locating groove on my flares to let them slip over the top of it.



Not a great pic but I have 10x6 ROH Contessas and 165 by 10 yoko A008 tyres and they sit JUST under the lip.

Awesome thanks for that, I'm looking at some mini fibreglass group 2 flares for it. I have dropped the subframe with the wheels attached to it to the panel beater/sprayer so going to sit it on there and measure it up.

Group 2 is a nice looking flare, if the old flares were those cheap plastic flares, allegedly the screw holes will line up, but it will likely need fiddling.

10x7 is very wide, be sure to measure carefully. I'm waiting for Susanna to get back on her wheels to check for what flares I'll buy her.

looking at the pictures , especially the left side , it looks like it may have had the flare underlay metal backings on the car previously , is that a separate strip on top of the wheel arch quarter panel seam ?

So it had those cheap plastic flares on it before, I took them off and whoever owned it before me hacked at the front and rear metal flare bit around the wheel arches. The wheels are cooper s steelies widened to 7" .

Keen to find out about this. not at the stage where i can build my subframes yet so i dont know what the track is going to be. seems the only way i can think of to find out how wide my flares will need to be. i have 13x7 wheels but i have the extra wide stepped drums(is it an inch step? not sure). i have what seems to be honda discs on the front mated to mini hubs and because of the wide wheels, they should come out to the same width. i think itll be wider than group 2 though not as wide as something like group 5. doesnt leave me with too many options as far as i know...

NO they are not Cooper S steelies. They are standard steel rims that have been widened. Cooper S rims have little holes around near where the centre of the rim joins the rounded section (hope that makes sense)

Flairs, personally I hate the screw on plastic flairs, they look cheap and horrible.

Because you have 7" wheels you will something like group 2 race flairs or miglia flairs. How much do they stick outside the guards?

I have 10x6's ultralights and these are covered by group 2's. Your guards will need modifying as well to allow you to turn the wheel.

Its just my humble opinion..

However...A. 7" is way beyond the recommended wheel width of any available tyre..(unless) and B. Minis hate (really) wide wheels with big offsets.. they tramline badly.

PS (unless In the US they will sell you golf cart tyres - probably something like 195/50s.... Despite lots of opinions these will work - although perhaps not a particularly "performance" option..

I bought some tyres 165/70r10 and they fitted perfect, they don't even look stretched? Yeah I'll probably run these for a week and sell them haha they just look cool.. See what happens

how did you measure the rims?

this is a common error in how people measure rims.
