What tacho's work with electronic ignition
not for my car but a friends
the one in the car now reads way to high and I could not see any switching on it
does not have to be the most expensive one , just something that works properly
the owner of the car is not mechanically minded and I would hate to think how hard she is revving this engine
also in a mini k , is the heater or the choke cable mounted next to the steering column

I had a 60s Smiths that worked with my IR switched electronic ignition for years. So that's one option. Im sure there are lots.

Back in the day I removed the tacho from my 850.. too scary on the highway ..but the engine lasted for years. Unless she's an absolute sadist the noise will usually scare people off before things get damaged..

Wrt the cable, pull the knob and look under the bonnet to see what's moving..

Cheers, Ian

Thanks Ian
Sadist might be right
I had to fit a louder horn to the car because " Other cars just don't hear me when I have to blow my horn at them "
I think you can work out what I am dealing with :D , her daily drive is a SS commodore
She thinks the mini will cruise the same , What speed limit ?

wev`e been fitting & running & using electronic dizzys with tacos for years, so far no problems
there was a situation with those britpart elec ign units years ago (when they were blue) they had a bad batch come through, lots got sent back (missing & farting) we sent back about 5 in a row at one stage,,, they sorted that problem & changed the colour of the unit to red & so far all good

but yes plenty of cars running around with electronic ignition systems & std issue tacos working all good

I had an old Smiths one in Barney with a Pulsar dizzy and it read erratically, but I think the problem was it was old.
I recently looked at buying a new Smiths, but the $250 price tag stopped me. I bought a 0-8000rpm AutoGage one instead. Made by Autometer. It reads correct (I'm using with a Powerspark module + the stealth black box) and is well damped, and was less than 1/2 the landed price of the Smiths.

I had an old smiths that was not working. Once the local instrument maker had confirmed that the actual movement for the needle was ok he replaced the old circuit board with a modern one. Now is smooth and accurate.

I'll have to check what it cost. I guess if you are handy with electronics you could order the kit and DIY.

So if you find an old one that's one option.

One i finished restoring for my car yesterday.
