Don't remember that the stalk had a spring loaded "flashing" position? I'm sure if I realized it did I would have tried to make it work!
John Smidt thinks there was a stalk on later Clubmans that didn't have the pull-back flash facility (regardless of wires being cut) so you may be right.

Hi guys. My 69 Cooper has a non original indicator switch ie. it has the forward & back motion for the high & low headlight beam. It is working fine but in the interest of originallity are the correct ones with the bullet connectors available.
Cheers
Getting back to the original question, there are quite a few different version of the Lucas 119SA switch we are talking about here. They should have Lucas England embossed on the body.
The original type for the MK II Mini range from 1969, including Cooper S, was BMC part number 13H4543, which is Lucas part number 35840. It has bullet connectors. See photo below.
The later version that is the same style and has the same functionality and was used in the Mini Clubman range is 13H7779, Lucas 39719. This one has a multi-plug instead of bullet connectors. Most Mini parts suppliers sell this one for use in all MK II Minis and Clubmans. You can remove the multi-plug and install bullet connectors, or install a multi-plug on the existing wiring loom so no change is needed to the switch.
