Hi all I'm wanting to know what the best of the above would be to run with a 1275 20thou over, running a weber and roller rockers?

Gemini starter works fine but won't fit with an S oil cooler in the usual position.

I use a starter from Convertible Mini - Excellent.
Solenoid sits under the main body of the starter, away from the normal S style oil cooler and my extra heater core type cooler.
Came with a wiring loom.
This is on a round nose - not sure where the oil cooler fits on the Clubman, but can't see it being a problem.

If using Convertible Mini's Bosch one, it is a great starter but I would smear silastic over both ends of the solenoid. Mine filled up with water on a very rainy trip to Newcastle and back. Because it is mounted underneath.

Location: Sydney - strangely, I am glad of the sight of hills!!
I use one of Convertible Mini's ones, and i never had any issues with water ingress, even in the pouring Dutch rain! Can't hurt to take the precautions though.

It has no problems spinning a 1411 stroker with almost 11:1 compression.

I also have one of Convertible Mini's repro electronic dizzys and a Bosch GT40 coil. No problems with spark that i used to get with the points. Planning to add the stealth box for infinite timing adjustment soon too.

Are these pre-engaged or the older style??? (What sort of flywheel do I need?)

Ian, they fit the early non verto flywheel. Not the Rover one.

I also do the Bosch ones to fit the Rover engines with Verto Clutch. I have made and sold dozens of these starters. I have never had any other complaints of water ingress, and no complaints of failures when the starter is correctly fitted in accordance with the instructions. They are also lighter than any other Mini starter on the market and we stock repair parts for them.

At present I use an ancient Manx Racing lightweight flywheel. Over the years its had a few replacement (lightweight) ring gears.

Next rebuild I'm thinking of a new flywheel/starter and thought a newer style (but not verto) pre-engaged starter might be easier on the thinner ring gear.

Are there pre-engaged versions of these starters?... or do I have to use the old style inertia ring gear???
