Hi, I have just purchased an 81 moke that has been sitting for 15 years. Front disc pistons seem clean but stuck, any advice on freeing them up?
Cheers,
Steve

Don't use compressed air unless you wrap them in rag first. I use a grease nipple in hose hole, pump them out......easy. :-)

You will need to clean it all out to put in new seals (and pistons perhaps) anyway.

I would assume they'd need overhauling anyway if they're seized. If the pads are newish, just give them a linish and brake cleaner.

often the pistons are just "cocked" from some dork pulling them back in wrong to effect replacement pads
but most times they`re jammed from grit & rust & crap & years of "lack of maintenance"

grease gun is the go,,, modify the end to fit a brake fitting & Bob`s your Aunt :-)

clean them all out & fit new seals etc & away you go
easy-peasy

Not worth reusing if they happen to get contaminated with grease or other fluids

Clean the pistons with steel wool or wet & dry paper and inspect.
If the chrome is pitted on the outside, buy new ones.

Originals have a flat machined across the open end, this goes to the top of caliper when assembled. New aftermarket pistons don't seem to have this.

Thanks Doc, will be giving it all a go on the weekend, and also seeing if I breath life into this moke after sitting for 15 or so years!
