Hi. I am wiring up a tacho and was wondering if it's safe to piggy-back off the double spade terminal in my setup circled below. That red wire feeds the fuel pump. The tacho is an old Smiths RVC one.

The other wires currently attached are white, brown, and white with red stripe. Just seems like a lot of wires for a switch...

Well mine looks like that.
Otherwise feed it from the fusebox switched fuse. But it will still get its feed via the ign switch, so meh.

Yeah, electrically it is fine. The risk is that more wires you hang off of one terminal, the more it tends to loosen the terminal.

You could cut back the wire insulation of the circled wire and solder it on that wire

I hate using them plastic coated crimp connection they always come loose after a while even when you use one of these ratchet type tools http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online ... mendations

I like using the non insulated brass ones and heatshrink at least I can run some solder around the connection after it gets crimped with a good soldering iron or small blow torch

Here's the non insulated crimp tool http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online ... mendations

I have one from jaycar where you buy the tool and then buy different crimp heads for it

That circled terminal has 2 spades (which you can just see bottom left) so I'll just use that and give it the wiggle test.

Just bare in mind that what comes out of the Ignition switch is not protected by a fuse. So either go back to the ignition fuse or add an inline fuse if you take power from the ignition switch.

Hi.

By 'ignition fuse', do you mean fuse box? If I were to connect to the fuse box, would it be the red or green side pictured below? (excuse the mess)

From reading other threads, I take the top half is the switched portion of the box. I'm just not sure about which side, or if it matters at all if fed by ignition switch as pointed out before.

Both fuses are 15A.

Check voltage on both fuses with ignition off. The one with no volts is the fuse you want.
I would clean all the fusebox spade connectors & fuse contacts whilst you are at it.
