The Number of times I get asked and pestered to sell stuff for cheap...

I list parts on Ebay and get 10+ watchers then some one asks will I take less then the advertised price........ Whats the story.....are these people tight arses or just trying to rip a honest seller? Watching parts sell must give people a hardon as half never bid!

I ask whos Mini is cheap?....go on... throw it on for sale for $200. For some reason Tight arses own expensive minis but they think everyone else has a crap mini worth nothing

So why ask for parts for nothing????????????

I sell second hand parts for 1/2 what the mini places do when I have them and I still get grief from buyers that say they are to expensive.

A tale a panel beater told me really fixed my impression of a special car part. He use to roll panels for Ferrari

Metal is metal and a 40 year old Porsch or Mini part it only metal so its the rareity you pay for.

If you want a special part expect to pay for it.

Cooper S RH tank is rare so you pay what you need to buy it. For all those "it's only worth $150" go buy your dreams for $150 and get ready to pay real dollars for the real part.

Feeling better I got that off my chest

blah blah....whinge whinge....

It's the way of the world. Go live in the UK and sell stuff there!!

It doesn't matter if you sell Mini parts, Torana GTR XU1 parts, or even Ford Zephyr parts....EVERYONE wants a bargain.

Dont come on here and bite the hand that feeds you.

It's quite funny when an ebay seller kicks up a big stink on here. One did very recently and I was about to buy 2 things from him on ebay......I certainly wont now!

I have similar thoughts to besser on the issue, but haven't had that problem on ebay.
Incidently, if anyone would like a cooper s tank, I have one here they can have for
$300.

people love to haggle, that's why if you say such a part is for sale for x amount of dollars, many people will offer half just to start off with. Secondhand parts to me are often able to be bought - at swapmeets or wherever - for 75 per cent of what the seller originally said he wanted, so why not try and get something cheaper? As for ebay, people get involved in the competitive element of the bidding - I have sold parts on there after they did not get a bid first time, then when I relisted at half the price, the bids raced past the original amount  :)
It's just about understanding how tightarses like me work!
cheers!

So what are you saying? that we just give you money for whatever part you want to sell at whatever you think the right price is?

Forget it! Welcome to the real world. People pay what they want to pay, and won't pay what they don't want to pay. True there are whingers out there that will whinge at the price, any price, but it happens every day, everywhere, at all levels of the market. The fact that Ebay is relatively anonymous means you can have a whinge without personal scrutiny or having to personally confront anyone.

I tell you it happens EVERY SINGLE DAY in the retail industry, it's just that people don't vocalise their disagreement with the price being offered. They simply walk away.

The fact that you have 10 watchers on ebay means nothing! I click on Watch Item just out of interest without even having a ounce of intention to buy. Are you saying that if you are selling a car part for a certain price, that out of 10 people who walk into your shop to look at the price, one of these 10 will buy it? forget it! 30,000 people walk through Myer every day and I am sure the amount of sales is half that or less!

If you can?t stand the open medium of Ebay selling then SET UP A RETAIL STORE and sell it that way. Whinging about it to this forum aint going to make people part with their cash any quicker. If you have not worked out how to sell an item on ebay and get the price you want then don?t come here and tell us about it.

Bottom line: I will pay what I want to pay, I will say what I want to say. If they whinge at the price, ignore them! It happens every day in the retail world. Go ask any shop owner. People will walk out of a store if an item of 50c more than they want to pay for and that is the reality. You go charge whatever you want, good luck.

/end rant

And here I was thinking you were selling skates for minis cheap!!

FWIW, they're everywhere. I'm involved in hotrodding too and I constantly see it.

Don't worry about the tight arses.....only BUYERS have a right to complain. The rest can please themselves.

hehehe...thats funny!

I just sold my Mitsu Lancer on ebay.

Listed it at $1. My wife was spewing....but it is pretty obvious that the final price will be a true reflection of market value. It sold for $2750 and I was happy. No whingers, no complaining from anyone. Everyone was happy. Now isn't that nice!!! :D

Guys,

Love the feedback and it's coming from active mini enthusiasts.

You guys would have a good chuckle at some of the lines I get.
One Guy was telling me he was a school kid who really wanted my adjustable lower suspension arms for his mini so he could get it to drive safely around the streets in Tasy. His problem was that he didnt have much money and being at school only had $50 to pay for them.

Best part was I had them advertised for $150 and the Auction wasnt over.

I suggested he keep the $50 for his insurance if he was so worried about crashing!

Sold some BMW wheels and the guy buying them tried to tell me they were worth nothing as they were soft Alloy and buckled easily.
I suggested as mine were still round they must be rare if his story was true and I hinted that if he pay the price asked (1/2 the wreckers price) he would have the bargin of the day.

I agree that you need to haggle to get a good price but if your offered a good price do you be a ning nong and keep screwing and maybe lose the sale? That's what ebay is... he who screws the least and willing to pay wins.

Finally ....hehehe..... the retail analigy is a little off centre.... Yeh I can walk through Myer and look at mens ties for $40 then go to my local menswear and see the same tie for $15 and finally when I was in Singapore recently buy the same tie for $5 but it wasnt made 40 years ago, it's a main stream item with high volume production and competing in a flooded market with multiple competitors. How many sellers are offering you rh tanks, 130 speedos, "s" blocks.... so few they normally put their price up if you sound to keen.

From what i've seen on ebay ( and my wife likes to buy jewelery there), a lot of people just watch stuff till the last possible moment and then try to pounce on the item at the last moment, hoping for the bargan of a lifetime, plus outdoing the other person who was wanting to bid. So the most biddding comes in the last 10 minutes.
And just because they are trying to tell you that its not so good because of this or that , doesnt mean you have to sell it to them. If it doesnt meet your reserve then it doesnt sell, try again

Some people miss the whole concept of Ebay - its the epithomy of a free market price barter especialy so because for any item there are always atleast several people interested.

I always list my stuff with a $1 start price and no reserve - the bidding will usualy set a fair price (and often an excelent price in my view) reflecting the item's true value.

The problem with most selllers is that they don't give any decent information about their stuff - use general descriptions lile "ok condition" which is often a lie by ommission and set start prices which dont encourage competitive bidding. Be open and honest with you descriptions (so few sellers are) and with your start pricing and you'll do great on ebay.

Besser,

That's some funny stuff. Agree there are alot of loonies out there, I guess you just have to ignore them... if your item is not selling and the only truly interested person is a looney then that is saying something about the price? or the demand for the item? who knows...
