Heard a whisper the other day that the tyre manufacturers will soon not be making tyres to fit 10 inch wheels......the usual thing about not being cost effective.

Any-one else heard this?????

"tyre manufacturers" I highly doubt that. Maybe A tyre manufacturer (singular) may stop producing a tyre, but I doubt that all of them would. This harks back to Yoko A008s supposedly being NLA but I know many people that have no trouble sourcing them.

Most likely an urban myth style whisper , how many mini's and a few other cars are there in the world that use 10" tyres ? A hell of a lot really and whilever they are still selling they'll keep making them . Was it a tyre dealer who told you this trying to get you to buy more tyres by any chance ?

I'm hip to their savvy, marketing ploys so I have a stockpile of 10 wheelbarrow tyres for that day. if I iron then for long enough before I put them on they'll have a "similar" to the old 10 inch tyres apperance. traction is a bit of an issue tho

NAH Only being stupid...... no one will forget us mini's they'll just get more expencive...... like everything else

It was my son Dylan - Dylansclubby on here - who told me this, but you're right, as long as we keep on needing them, I'm sure they'll keep on producing them, hope so anyway :)

See ya

Pfft there are 10,000's of minis in the UK and Europe. No way that someone won't be making tyres for us mini guys. They will stop making cylinder heads long before then, since they still sell brand new heads for A series, it seems it will be some time before then

Sport850 and Rodney is right, if people keep needing them, they'll keep making them... They make tyres for much older cars than minis...

and....what are they gonna put on small dodgy boat trailers ?

Also, I went to K-Mart tyres once asking for a price on 10" tyres....they suggested I try a lawnmower shop...so I went nextdoor (literally) to Bob Jane isntead. So maybe lawnmower shops have them fo incredibly huge ride-ons ? lol :P

That's odd.. did the K-mart tyre people actually know about 10" tyres or just give you that blank look? Like that auto parts place that asked me what an H3 light bulb was...

From Yoko Marketing(thanks Christian), they will always have them in stock due to the Jap market wanting them and if you want 008's, Yoko will find them anywhere in Oz. Drop an email to them and they do the walking.

May take a couple of weeks to secure them but they will be sent to the dealer of your choice. Tyre places laugh at me when I wanted 10's in the 008 but when I turned up with them in the back of the mini, they refused to believe that I got them from Australia(suffice to say they were gobsmacked when they saw the sticker still on them - from Melbourne!!)

It is in the "too hard" basket for most dealers and frankly not worth their while. A certain aussie all round tyre supplier(!)was one that flatly refused to believe 008's were still in existence. This was also the same place that I busted joyriding in my mini when the tyres(bridgestone)were put on and racking up 70-odd km in it( I always note the kays). Got a hansome 50 percent off from them(and secured a stern bone in of one of the fitter - little crap!).

008's - they will be here for a bit yet - and the advantage of having a ship in Portsmouth last year allowed me to bring in 8 x A008 tyres from England - it is great having a vast aircraft hangar to put crap in!!

My brother had a brand new EVO at his work the other week. The owner had busted the dude that had tinted it for him test driving it - since it had sat nav alarm system and can report where it is, speed it is doing etc. Got a neat discount :)

Last time I tried K-Mart Tyres they said "Oh no, we don't do 10" tyres..."
so I took my custom elsewhere, as usual. :x
Pity really, they USED TO have good prices on Mini tyres.

Sorry sidetracked...

There is an auto electrician in Isa street who did the same thing with the GTI-R I owned(was in getting the lights rewired and all the ignition redone). Was working in Maryborough Street across the way and my desk is facing the street. Anyways I hear the unmistakeable sound of my then car ripping up newcastle street bouncing off the limiter, and then down Maryborough street doing the same thing.

Short story - walked briskly across the pines and into this pricks shop and demanded I see my car. His excuse was it was out getting some "specialist" work done. Just as he ended that breath, the car ripped into the workshop at breakneck speed with the 2 lebanese apprentices in it laughing and giggling. That is until they saw me there in my white uniform and purple above the collar. Thankfully being in uniform stopped me tearing them and the father apart.

A quoted $1000 job was given to be gratis.

To keep with the tyre theme though, had Yoko 509's on it - absolutely brill tyre in wet and dry.

One tyre I wish they did in 10 inch is the Y352 - good wearing tyre and bloody sticky as(had a wear index of 350 = 35000km) but downside they were noisy buggers.
