Hey just wondering what are the essential road-side tools for a mini. Eg tools that would be used in an emergency.

Spanners - what size?
Screwdrivers?
Pliers?

anything you can think of, coz im making up a nice little tool pouch / box for my new boot 8)

I carry the following:

Mini side jack & wheelbrace,
4 way wheelbrace,
screwdrivers- a #2 Phillips & 3 flat ones,
cheap open ended spanner set- from 5/16 A/F- 5/8 A/F,
spark plug socket & bar,
spark plug set,
6" shifter,
pliers,
wire cutters,
multigrips,
razor blade,
penknife,
feeler gauge set,
torch & batteries,
6" of heater hose (for bypass),
top rad hose,
bottom rad hose,
split pin (front hub),
fan belts (2),
6 cable ties,
2 radiator bracket grommets...

Probably other bits I've forgotten...
I used to carry a spare dizzy (complete..) but now with the Pulsar dizzy I don't bother.

Jan; in the boot

"5/16 A/F- 5/8 A/F" - what sizes does this contain? Also what is A/F?

Also, where should i get these tools? As i would want new (or even SH) stuff to use purely for the mini; i've got an extensive range at home.

Also, what spark plugs do you use/ what is recommended and do you carry a full set (4) ?

A/F means `across flats' ie width of spanner.
I think they are-
1/4-5/16,
3/8-7/16,
1/2-9/16,
5/8-3/4.
They fit 99% of what's on a Mini. Buy `chrome vanadium' spanners, they are stronger than Chinese `forged dogturd'.. Brand matters less- my roadie spanners are made in India..

Where to buy? I just kept my eyes open- if they looked OK I bought them. Some came from Big-W, K-Mart, etc. They are only to get you out of trouble..

Yeah I do buy better ones for home/work- Sidchrome, Craftsman, Kinchrome, etc.

Spark plugs- if it's stock, I'd use NGK BP6ES or Bosch W7DC.
I use Bosch W6DC or NGK BP7ES in my 1310 (colder plugs- my motor is modded a fair bit)

Jan,
I have room for 2 plastic toolboxes and a plastic crate in the boot. And twin tanks..Sorry, no subwoofers, amps, etc and yeah it does look shitty...

Nah- I draw the line at carrying a torque wrench or socket set.. if it's that unreliable it can stay at home!
(but in my Fiat 124S, I carried a head gasket set, sockets, torque wrench.. clutch cable, throttle cable, oil pump drive gear, timing belt, yada yada....
I adhered strictly to Murphy's Law).

Well I guess I'm the odd one out. Only have space for my four subwoofers, 35 litre petrol tank, 2 Mono Block amps, 1 x 4 channel amp, fuse box with neon, multiple LED's and my Odyssey battery.
