Hi folks, I'm about to embark on my final semester of mechanical design adv. diploma - and that means it's design project time! I'm not sure what the project will be yet, but maybe engine mountings for an engine swap or an electric motor conversion perhaps?

Anyway, does anyone have AutoCAD (or .dwg / .dxf) files of a classic mini, or an a-series engine/gearbox assembly that they'd be willing to donate? I've had a brief search on google but no luck sofar, and I really don't want to have to fork out any cash for drawings - at the end of the day I can always take my own measurements and draft it up on AutoCAD myself, but I'd like to avoid that if you know what I mean..!

Anything at all (even scanned files of old engineering drawings) would be much appreciated!

Are you after 2d or 3d?

Either or - I've done 3D work in CAD before and I have access to inventor and AutoCAD mechanical, but 99% of the time I'm using AutoCAD 2008.

They're good models, the only problem I have is they're a bitch in the number of surfaces in them.
I've spend ages in the past trying to smooth them out, but not to much success.

Yeah, I might need some more memory too!

For what I'm doing though it is way above what I need - it's a good way to show how things will go together - but any parts I design will end up being done as 2D drawings anyway.

There have been many who have attempted to set up a dedicated mini drawing collection, but nothing has ever come of it. I have more on an old drive at home, if I can recover them.

I've got a dodgy looking side view that might be useful... PM email address, and I'll convert it for you (not in an AutoCAD format at the moment, different CAD package). I thought that AutoCAD had one in the Design Centre stuff, too..?

I got out of having to do a project for my Adv. Dip. Mech. Eng. I figured it wasn't going to give me any credit at Uni, B. Tech. students don't do an Engineering Project, and I was able to obtain enough credits (10 years ago now, needed 9 "EB" modules, I was the only person to avoid project, and the only person to pass the other more technical alternative subjects) to get the qualification without doing a "how long is a piece of string" subject like Engineering Project. I figured you could do 5 pages, or 500 pages, and have just as likely a chance of passing the subject... All the best with it.

hmmm i have a nice little CFD package that i could use some of this stuff for......

Hmm, the body is a hybrid. From the height of the bonnet up its a rover, but below its a morris.

Already put it to good use, checking the clearances on my planned rotisserie as the shell rotates.

Is that the model that was downloaded from that DXF?
Are you able to easily blend the surfaces together so it's not made up of so many squares?
