Guys

I have a mini I want to restore, however there is quite alot of rust, has anyone got any pictures of restorations of badly rusted cars so that I can determine if my rust is just not worth the effort.
Thanks
Natalie

You should just buy my GT shell, easier, quicker & a whole lot cheaper. Or sell your car to me so i can put it all in my shell.

Doogie, why not let him restore his, and you finish yours, and keep both GTs kicking, instead of only making one out of two?

I know it's easier and cheaper the other way, but they're a rare vehicle and whose numbers need to be preserved.

Thanks Chow..

Doogie Nope couldnt do it, as then i would know numbers didnt match

Back to how much rust is too much??

If that shell was a standard clubman or mini s or even an 850/delux/k i wouldn't be bothered fixing it, i would scrap it. I dont see the value for the time and effort required.

So i think depends on what sort of car it is determines the amount of rust that is acceptable. To me a cooper, cooper s, GT, 1275LS all worthy to restore with significant rust (look at micks cooper s he restored). Or a car that has sentimental value (ie was parents car or your first car etc)

Having said that standard minis are worthy to be fixed if you have the desire
At the end of the day another one restored means another one on the road which is always a good thing.

Thanks, the car is a 76 SS mini, correct id, compliance plate etc, so IMO it is worth the effort. I agree, if it was a standard mini I would not consider. However, I just can't let this one slip into oblivion. The concerning area's for me are the area's above the back window and the roof area near the (correct me if I am wrong) the C pillar.
There is major rust under the back windows as well, but I have seen photo's of repairs being done here, so not too worried. It is the rust in the pillars that concerns me. The rust is very nasty, have basically rusted through and the holes are big and knarly.

Minis are easy to fix rust. Most panels are spot welded and most panels are available. I have seen some amazing restorations of badly rusted jags, alfas, and fiats in europe and Australia, if you tackle the car in sections and you are a good welder you'll be suprised what is savable.

Hi Natalie, What state are you in? I may know of a New Old Stock Clubman GT rear panel if your looking for one?

Cheers,

Scott
