I think it's an optical illusion. Both shoes seem level with the outside of the wheel cylinder and look square to me.

Those linings look awful rough though- worn drum?

Best cure for drum brake probs- machine the drums at a brake place, get new O/S bonded shoes to suit, and new wheel cylinders. Pretty cheap, and results guaranteed.

doc...i'm pretty sure thats a rubber o-ring i can see poking out there!

cush...they're easy as to change....just a cirlip on the back of the drum backing plate and then you pull it out...easy! last time i got a set of wheel cylinders it cost me $80 for the pair (rears, which by the look of it is what is in your pic)

ps. the brake in the pic is already single leading shoe...twin leading shoe drums have two wheel cylinders in each wheel

two tips i can give regarding changing the Drum brakes

1 Do one side at a time so you have the other to refer to.
2 When replacing the springs (which can be a pain) Use a flat head screw driver not pliers. Place on end on and place the flat head in a couple of winds in the other end.

Also get the drums checked if they have been machine before. Also get a freind to help you bleed the brakes
Also dont get the riverted Shoes but the bonded shoes

happy braking Chushy

Christoph... bargain... if i can't get it back in with a screw driver i'll get it fixed with my wallet.

drmini: yeah, they are worn, i cleared out about a centimetre pile of brake dust from the drum so it looks nice now... better than the other side which has a nice matching ridge on the shoe and ditch on the drum... *shakes mini 8 ball* ....."machining looks likely"

thommo : thanks...i figured it'd be easy.. :) and they're my fronts... and yeah... i figured they'd be single leading shoes....coz it makes the pricey disc conversion a better idea...

gaf: thanks for the tips, dude.. ( my nickname is getting longer each day. ;) )

i think that's everyone :)

Sorry for the additional H mate.
Check to see if the drums have been machined. If they have been by the Cooper S drums and your wheels will poke out a little for the back and will match with the disc front end

Have fun Tushy. ... I think that the one that will stay :D
