ok well this mornin i statred the car up and started reversing down the driveway...then i stalled it at the bottom.. i went to start the engine up again and it didnt start....
!!!!!!!!
all it made was a click noise. ...

so in the pooring down rain i had to get my mum to push the damn thing so i could clutch start it to take it in to the servo for the blues slip....

i then had to explain to the guy what happened..... aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

The *click* when you try to start it could be the starter solenoid not engaging or sticking.

I've had and heard of lots of cars doing that. Dad used to keep a special hammer in his Kombi for that reason. Mum would turn the key while Dad would get under the van and tap the sticky solenoid with the hammer to allow it to move. Even my cressida will do the *click* on occasion.

Probably means that steering lock isnt working probably.

eg, even when theres no key in the ignition u can still freely turn the wheel.

What year is your car?
Is the ignition switch in the middle of the dash or on the steering column?

There is a very good chance that your mechanic is a dickhead. 8)

Yep... my 1275 LS used to do it occasionally... then it simply fixed itself and hasn't done it since (touchwood).

Ahhh , the joy's of owning a mini , clean the battery terminal's , check the earth strap is bolted to clean metal (no corrosion) in the enginebay and tell the mini that if it doesn't behave in a suitable manner before the next inspection then it's going to the wreckers . Alway's worked for me ......
