I gapped the points inside last night, installed them this morning, and fired it up. All sounding smoother!

So I tried taking it out. And it was back to terrorizing the neighbourhood.

The tune felt no worse than it was on points (i.e. timing/needles, etc), the engine revved smoothly, it idled higher than it ever has before (choke off)...

Didn't bother to remove plug leads from the new plugs, I didn't feel like copping another few boots.

So, I'm thinking that, in the process of changing to electronic ignition and doing and oil change, it's probably not a bad recommendation for people to change their plugs at the same time.

I don't know when mine were last done.

Certainly not while I've had it (although I maintain I wouldn't have done 1000 miles since I've had it on the road).
None of that explains why the plugs were fouled, but I'll just check this set in 100 miles or so, and see what they look like.
