How many times do people have to be told? This stuff is a POISONOUS and CARCOGENIC substance. Air respirators are NOT sufficient. You need total body covering as it is absorbed through the skin. The stuff we are using is illegal overseas because of the pollutants and personal danger to the operators. I have a mate who is a tech teacher in spray painting and he point blank refuses to use it. It is madness to even contemplate using it at home outside a controlled environment and if caught your pocket will be lighter by a whole lot I would think. Unfortunately this is not one of those jobs for the amateur and should be left to the professionals.

So is there a 2K (base coat or clear) that an enthusiastic amateur could successfully use at home, or is it out of the question? It would have to be non-toxic, go off at room temperature (10 degrees Celcius in NZ...) and not require anything too expensive to spray.

ok so, yes there is an iso-free 2-pak clearcoat available. Most retail paint places are only allowed to sell this type due to the nature of isocyanates which are found in normal 2-pak. Also, iso-free 2-pak clear can be used over a metallic acrylic base coat, but it must be iso-free otherwise the clearcoat will peel off.

EDIT: no baking required either.
