Also I have noticed the oil filler cap of the alloy one has been rubbing on the bracing of the underside of the bonnet.

:?: how curious?:

yeah, the filler cap is in the centre which puts it right where the cross bracing is and it has a monza style flip open cap. Maybe that's not original. It looks pretty tall anyway.

Sounds like a Metro cover.
There are some rockers that don't fit in that particular one.
Try it and see.
If they hit on the back, a trick I have used with fitting Corolla rockers is to slot the 2 stud holes in the top forwards about 1.5mm. Then push the cover back. Works fine, on the alloy covers I had (not same as yours).

You may have misunderstood, I already have the alloy one fitted and it seems OK over the rockers. I wanted to know if an original tin rocker cover (which I prefer the look of) would fit over these rockers instead.

The alloy one is pictured below. One problem I do have with the alloy one is that the oil cap contacts the bonnet underside inner panelling. Both are marked from years of rubbing.

Yes they will fit OK in a standard Mini rocker cover.
