I am truely pleased you are coming. That means betwenn Aaron, yourself and the little I know we are in a good position to get the job done quickly, safely and efficiently as well as teaching anyone else who turns up. This is truely great stuff and makes me pround of the Mini Car Club and the general mini fraternity.

I will bring clutch tools, my general tools, jack stands, ball joint breaker and the engine crane. I will also bring my trolley jack but is not the big high lift type - just a father day present K-mart type. I also have a tension wrench and an engine lifting bracket made by Kevin (1310/71)

Tait - we are doing good here - you need a head gasket kit (VRS kit), a conversion gasket kit, Heater bypass hose, clutch seal and timing case seal. Also a thing of aviation gasket goo , oil filter (the filter on the motorhere is a canister type -NOT a spin on - but we can change it if yours is the spin and the bolts come out cleanly) We also need oil, coolant and while we are at it - spark plugs and a set of points to suit your dizzy. A set of engine mounts would be good also if you can afford it. Also if your radiator hoses are soft, swollen and spongy - now is the time to change them.

I have already found someone to feed our animals so my wife and I will come to Newcastle friday afternoon - can you give some details of the caravan parks locally please ? - so we can have an early start saturday.

I will keep track of numbers and names for the very much welcomed BBQ.

Doogie, Aaron - can you think of anything missed ?????

Sorry about the latenessof the response - been at a bush fire brigade meeting

I always find keeping a few extra thermostat housing gaskets handy helps
Have a think about what is on your block, and what you will need to to take off his - ie flywheel puller for example?

Is a fuel pump gasket included in the conversion set?

Bring them up with you kev - the thermostat gaskets etc

Yep - flywheel puller is part of the clutch tools

Fuel pump gasket - no its not part of the kit - the motor in question is actually the one out of your friends white clubby van. I replaced the burnt exhaust valve and it ran fine just hasnt been run since i pulled the engine from that van. When you next see him tell him where the motor is going, he hould be pleased. btw his gear box is sitting under my 1310 in the kermit

keep thinking of what we need fellas - this is an exercise in getting a car going economically so no ARP bolt suggestions *s* though

Would if I could. The 16th I'll be in Melbourne (MotoGP weekend at Phillip Is).
Hopefully you now know a bit more about what engine/gearbox/dizzy/carb etc Harvey69 has in the car already - ie he won't need points if he has a pulsar dizzy etc.

If you're replacing the engine mounts don't buy the ones with the captive nuts, because they won't line up and you'll wate hours trying. Best thing to do is weld nuts onto the standard ones or even your older ones to make things easier.

Totally agree on the engine mounts - we can live with the normal ones

But as an aside - some one who is a welder could make quite a small fortune here if they purchased supplies of engine mounts and nuts and sat quietly one afternoon carefully MIGging the nuts on.

Last time i pulled my motor out and back in it took. 5 mins a side to line up and bolt in the botttom mounts. All comes down to a good strong screwdriver and a pair of pointy nose pliers. Yes nuts welded on does mae it easier, but you also have to be careful not to ruin the thread on the nut when getting the mounts in place.

One thing to keep in mind is that by using two new mounts it causes all sorts of issues getting the bugger in. New ones are very tight. My Solution was to put one new one in on the rad side and the best of the old in the clutch side. As the clutch will probably come out before the radiator, I would replace the clutch side one when i need to do the clutch again. Makes life easy, and much less stressful.

Cheers
Aaron
