A full blue slip for an unregistered car is $46 but an engine change notification slip is less - $30 there abouts.

Yes you need a receipt - if you dont have one - use a mates name and address and type it up yourself - make sure you quote the engine number - the RTA wil simply photo copy it and give you back the original and file the copy away away.

Do, however, make sure the motor does not pop up on a REV's screen because the RTA will check the engine nnumber for anomalies.

Brad just paid $60 to get the `matic re-passed (aftwer he left the previous bluey too long), and we paid $49 last year for engine # adjustment.
Might be cheaper `out in the sticks'... 8)

Might actually be time to check the integrity of the inspector rather than the location of the inspector. As said, its a painless short check of the VIN and the engine number and the cost reflects exactly that.

I can assure you that my engine change twelve inspection months ago was NOT the full blue slip inspection fee. And yes it may have risen from the previous $46 to $49 since the last time I had a unregistered blue slip inspection done.

I make no comment on a retest after a blue slip expiry as I have not ever experienced that and have no knowledge of those costs.

Thanks guys, I will look into the REVS check... I doubt it's stolen but can't be 100% sure.

Cool I am getting excited now! the old engine will be out after MDU :D

read my reply here,
http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=23832&highlight=

read the rta advice sheet referenced, print it out and take it with you to the blueslipper. Show him you have read the rules and complied with them and he won't have any issues.

I am on an rta guidelines warpath now. no one seems to read the rules that are freely available, not even the bloody rta. infact everyone here who thinks that you need an engineers certificate to put a 1275 in any mini should read what i said at the above link. there is a lot of misinformation going about based on rumour and myth and someones vague memories of what some mate of a mate did 20 years ago. stop it. stop it now. read the guidelines and if your opinion is different to mine, then show me in the guidelines where it contradicts my opinion and i will acknowledge that i was wrong. in the meantime, change engines to your hearts content and get them blueslipped hassle free, but not because i say so, but because the rta guidelines say so.
[/rant]

cheers
michael

Well done, i have had blueslip inspectors tell me this sort of crap and had arguments to get them to ring the boys in Newcastle to clarify, they get the poo's because its not in there manual, and a ot of the time it isn't but being well armed before hand is the way to go :D

Great! I will print it out and bring it with me to blue slip inspection. I will also make sure they mention that they have inspected the disc brakes and that has been included. I will also do a REVS check before I do anything on the engine number.

Thanks guys! Woohoo! 1330 here we come!

That is the one of the best bits of advice I have seen on this forum.

A couple of things
Firstly

- can a mod dump all this information into one thread and put it so it can be referred to cohesively.

Secondly

Since we are all caught up in myth, rumour and interpretations by RTA staff, does anybody actually have where it says LITERALLY that a 1275 car has to have disc brakes ??????

In my personal opinion, drummed minis are on the edge of being dangerous and the afore mentioned lack of is lethal on a performance mini. I know, I know - properly reco'ed and adjusted as well as maintained etc etc. But they rarely are on most minis.

Not sure what you mean by dumping it all into one thread, however if someone who understands the entire process what to write up a "how to", please post it here in Mini chat as a new thread and I'll be happy to move it. 8)

Yes - that is essentially what I tried to say as I typed quickly to finish the post as visitors walked through the door.

A proper how- to with the right words for gazette and statute orientated minded people who work in such towers of personal fame such as Department of Veteran Affairs, Centrelink and RTA.

That would be the second best bit of advice on this forum.

I annoys me when someone asks for advice and half the replies are totally wrong or misleading. Most of the time you can get the correct info online. The RTA is useless for info over the phone. The technical section don't know the rules and they they are supposed to enforce them.
