Both mine leak, I've tried all sorts of caps from original to locking (2 types).
Problem is someone butchered locking ones off them in the past, and the necks are damaged.
When I find a couple of better necks, I'll remove tanks fill with water and do a neck transplant.

Hey Hanra, is that a bit of the hinge to body gasket sticking out from underneath the boot hinge meant to be there? (near the top of the hinge) :D

Yeah, its like that on the door hinges and the bootlid hinges. I thought about trimming it, but this way ensured that the hinge itself will never touch the paint work.

This is fairly old pic and was taken after it had been freshly polished, so there is still some polish around the gasket, thats why it kinda looks white around the edge of the gasket.

Hi guys,
I bought a nice stainless steel one off e-Bay and although it looked correct, it was a vented one and dribbled when the tank was full. I solved it bt dropping a spot of solder on the vent hole. Anyone with a leaking cap on a Mk1 might check for this problem.

a S/S cap off a boat cruisetank fits well and looks stock, it has a neoprene seal washer, not the current aftermarket crappy cork one.

But even it won't seal on my damaged neck.

You know that the right hand tank filler on that Car is higher than the one on the left. Someone must have cut the hole a bit too high ! Bugger !!

When this pic was taken i had just put the caps on, and in order to get the caps on, a threaded brass ring must be F*CKING flogged onto the neck of the tank.... to allow the cap to screw onto it, yes i had to flog mine on because the tank is powder coated, but its still a tight fit.

Anyway, due to this floggin the left hand tank has shifted across a tad and this has caused the neck to not protrude as far out from the body. Thats why the lhs is sitting lower.

Simple fix: undo the strap for the tank, and shift it back over, tighten up strap.

WHY IS EVEYONE PICKING ON ME?
