the new fuel may have found a pocket of the old stuff and is tainted again...but unlikely.

The crap running has probably burn't your points ...have a look there and pull the plugs as well.

Old stuff: possible...which is why I only put 5L back in (in case I need to drain again. Maybe i'll do that tomorrow morning!

Points/Plugs: I pulled the plugs which look "ok"..gave them a cleanup and made no difference. Not really sure what I am looking for at the points end of things.

More than likely it will be your points, burnt/blackness...number one cause of Mini electrickcal problems. If the points are blackened or closed up when you rotate the engine thats probably your...ergh..problem.

I did NOT put diesel in it :)

So maybe just a high-octane fuel? That shouldn't hurt the Mini. Maybe they did something else to the car? But why would it behave after draining the tank (for a while). Because the engine was hot?

So the question might be; in what circumstances would it misfire/lumpy when cold/warm but then run fine hot?

I just went and had a look in my Moke's tank, premium unleaded is definitely yellow. I run my moke on premium, but thats only when I can't get ultra-premium, which is also yellow. It won't hurt your mini, its what you should be using (unless you have a Rover maybe?)

My Moke always plays up when its cold, runs quite well once its warmed up though  Its better on ultra-premium but still coughs a bit when its cold.
